Legal forum doesn't get enough traffic, so...

The fact of the matter is, people are going to keep trying to push their agendas, from both sides, the best we can hope for is a give and take.

You make an excellent point. While some like to blame "liberals" for every intrusion on freedom, it should be noted that the worst intrusion of recent times called the "Patriot Act" was brought on board during a conservative watch.

It was de Tocqueville who said, "in a democracy, people tend to get the government they deserve." In times of fear, people always seem to turn to restrictions for a sense of a security blanket, regardless of political ideology.

It's up to the people of Hawaii to assert their will to get what the majority wants, not the politicians.

The patriot act was brought abord to keep our freedom and freedom is not free, but
taking away guns and or knives from every day people that follow the law is pushed by liberals and that is a fact.

I guess I will go clinch onto my bible, knives, and guns before the majority assert their will that I shouldnt have the right to do so.

That's the interesting thing about our democracy, every adult citizen gets a vote. It's been described as a "tyranny of the majority". Makes for good theater. I watch it all with a sense of wry amusement and irony at what we do to ourselves.

Man, that's just.... insane. Not being allowed to have an SAK? Utterly bizarre. Sounds liek someone with a phobia is misusing their office instead of going to see a head shrinker.

FWIW, I'm socially very liberal (live and let live), a fiscal nutjob, and legal conservative. I think that polarizing based on misusing the word liberal to mean what conservative often means (my neighbor lady who thinks that kids shouldn't be ALLOWED to have cell phones because it's Just Not Right is very very conservative, and has no qualms restricting the freedom of others to suit her notions) makes for larger polarization than we need to have.

This is what I think about the Patriot Act.
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin
Koyote, you're absolutely right.
Fitzo, I share your amusement. We're a crazy bunch, left, right, and middle.

You have to read the PATRIOT Act, your freedom is free, for the taking.

This title tells me how much either "side" has vested in protecting my rights:
Feinstein and Schumer Welcome President Bush's
Support of Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization

Just in case you don't believe me:

I'll clinch onto my rights and leave the labeling to politicians.
