I've seen several pistols on the forums up for trade for different things. I was interested in a couple, but held back because I have no idea what legal issues you get into when it comes to trading firearms. Does anyone know what all is involved here. I live in North Carolina as I'm sure this varies by state.

You've got that right, it varies greatly by State.

If you are buying from out of State, you will need for the pistola to be sent by their FFL to your FFL to record the transfer. -At least that is the legal method.

In most states you can do a face to face transfer, but as CWL said, you have to go through a FFL for out of state transfers. Even in the same state it is not legal to ship a handgun to
another person without going through a dealer.

Ask a local FFL (Federally-licensed Firearms Dealer). Most retail gun shops are FFLs. Most would be happy to answer this question for you as a courtesy. Most would also be happy to assist in the transaction for a small fee.
