Legit Buck Grandady Barlow?

Looks like a knife SMKW had made by Buck a few years ago.I had some along with a California Toothpick and another pattern I can't remember.

I vote for the missionary knife answer. Then I am leaving before the thread gets any wilder.

I can no longer see the offering but I can tell you a bit about the Buck Granddaddy Barlow. It is one of the ersatz Bucks made for Smoky Mountain by Camillus. A non second would have Granddaddy Barlow etched on the blade. The bolsters would say Buck on them and there would be no model number on the tang. Sounds like this is a real one.

Here's a picture, without the auction link.

It's described as having the blade marking "struck out".

I do remember SMKW having the CA toothpick a few years ago, I think it was in yellow? I also remember they had another knife next to it, probably this barlow. You guys have pretty good memories. Chances are this is a second from that SMKW offering.

Without the etching I would say it is a second or over run. Mine, with the etching, has black saw cut durline scales. I like the brown bone. It looks cool.

But I thought tangents are a requirement of posting in the Buck forum. :)
Back in 2000 we did a number of special projects for SMKW. Camillus made the knives and sent them to Tenn. While I don't specifically recall the particular knife in this thread, it does look to be a second. Interesting thing to me is, I did not know that we had authorised any seconds.
Way back when, when we had knives that had "issues" , we DID have the name ground off the blade and we did send them to missionaries.
This one looks like such a knife except the timeframe is all wrong.
Of course it is possible that they are authorised seconds and nobody told me. Or maybe I missed the memo or the meeting. Ive been spending a lot of time here lately... :D

Will, I have one that is not second, without the blade etch. Buck IS stamped on tang.....

One more thing, there was a Buck 332 Barlow on Ebay this week also, had the box and all. The "Buck" stamped on the bolster of it, was a different Script that this "Grandaddy", now would Buck have had these knives stamped with a different script?

Here's the 332.

Now the Grandaddy:

Notice, the bolsters are stamped differently.

I don’t think there is much standardization as to how Camillus finished off the seconds for the ersatz Bucks. I have a 333 California Toothpick that says Buck on the tang but is an obvious second. The shield is bent and has been double struck into the durline. No way it would ever get past QC but it still says Buck on the tang. It does not say California Toothpick on the blade. I think, because Buck had very little to do with these knives, the rules went pretty much by the boards.

From my collectors point of view, you just try to find one flavor that appears to be standard in markings and call it good. If it is "non-standard" then you get it "cause you wants it anyways". I guess you could carry one of these granddaddys for EDC if you was Hoss enough. After being at the forum I sort of feel born again and wonder why you would want you carry a big barlow or even the 317 when you could carry a 110 in the same size pouch. Oh no the spirit of the 110 is upon me. :p

Look out 300, it is a slippery slop. Unlike Dave, I do not collect 110s. I do not collect 110s but I noticed the other day I now own eleven of them. What the he11 happened there.
