length for a propane forge

I tried researching this on another forum and I manually went through all the maker posts to see if this had been covered. I had no luck so I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

I picked up an old C02 tank from my local junkyard. The bottom is becoming a dishing swage, but I have the top portion and I'm hoping to turn it into a knife making forge. ideally a single burner unit, and if possible maybe up to a 12" blade length.(not sure if those two items go together)

the pipe is 8.75" diameter .25" wall thickness. And I have about 21" of strait pipe. Kaowool lining with ITC-100 for the insulation.(should I go 1 inch kaowool, or two?)
I'm not planning on doors, just firebrick to cap the back and insulate the front as needed.

I'm trying to figure out how long I should cut the pipe to begin the build.

Any suggestions?

I would stay in the 12-14" range with one burner and go to two burners for 14-20".

I like Stacy's suggestion of 12" to 14". I just made a 12" of the same diameter.

Go one inch for the Kaowool and I would add two layers of Satinite before the ITC-100. This should give you plenty 'wiggle' room if you decide to fold steel or start forging tomahawks.

I also cap each end with firebrick, leaving a small 2" x4" port on each end, level with the bottom of the insulation. I usually 'cap' the far end unless I am forging a longer blade.
