Length matters

Anyone know what is the max length of folder blade you can carry in California, Oregon, Washington, Canada.
I'll be travelling N this summer and would hate to go to the can for 1/16"

I was talking to the O.P.P. Sgt. from our town, about blade lengths, and he said 4 inches for a folder in your pocket is ok and anything larger can be hung on your belt. Up to whatever size you want, as long as its in plain view. He said that if you had a 5 inch folder in your pocket that no officer would bother you unless you were doing something illegal.
