The topic speaks for itself ; I'm neither LE or Rescue, but am curious as to what you type forumite(s) think is "optimum" for your line of work.

AET ;) (ATE on the Spyderco "home" forum ;))

On our local Search and Rescue team, I carry the following; a BM710, Leatherman Super Tool, and for anything else that may happen, a Becker Campanion. Those three are more than capable in any situation that may arise. Kelly:D

I am a fireman in washington DC and my current knives I carry are a Benchmade CQC7 in my right pocket, a Leatherman supertool on my belt and a Busse Mean Street in my turnout coat. I have also become attached to my Busse Assult Shaker which I recently purchased, but I only carry it occasionally at work.

Back before I retired from being a LEO I carried a Mini-Socom clipped in my left shirt pocket and I carried a CRKT M16-04 in my left hand pocket opposite my duty sidearm. I had also carried a Benchmade Tanto auto for a while but decided I didn't like it. I also carried a Cold Steel tanto in unit next to my seat and I had a Cold Steel tomahawk with hammer head in the trunk.

What I carried in my right front pocket always changed as I purchased some new EDC.

I'm an LEO at Andrews AFB. I carry a Spyderco Rescue 93mm in my strong side pocket. Sometimes I carry a CRKT M16-13 TI. I would carry something a bit more expensive however I wouldn't want to loose it or drop it. When I find myself using a knife in an emergency I can't really pay attention to keeping it clean. Or not dropping it. I find the Spyderco rescue great for hard work. I just got a MT Dragonfly, so as soon as I figure out how to use this knife without cutting the crap outta myself, I will start carrying it. It's a very strong design. I would carry a fixed blade but our dept. won't let us because they say it looks too intimidating on our duty belts. (Forgetting about my Beretta 92FS, my ASP, and my Spray) Sheesh! I used to carry an Elishewitz Phantom, but I traded it. That's the only custom I ever carried on duty.

I'm a cop in Wis. I carry a Spyderco clipped in strong-side pocket, and a Gerber Multi=tool on belt. I like the Gerber because all of the blades lock in place. Recently, I also started carrying a Scrade stockman in reaction=side pocket. I've tried a couple of different "tactical" knives in strong-side pocket, but most of them have rubber sides which cling to my hand when trying to retrieve change for a soda, and the knife pulls out with my hand, so went back to the Spyderco.

I'm a Paramedic in NC, and I carry everyday my Mini Commander (which has cut several seat belts), a Leatherman Wave, and my newest member of the family, a Kershaw Chive. Last night I had two men (69 and 74y/o) fall off a house on which they were installing a new tin roof. Well, there was a chain link fence around the back of the house with no gate. It wasn't a full chain link fence. The back section was wire fence that has 6" square sections (like what is layed to reinforce concrete driveways). Well, anyway, in order to get the stretcher to the patients, I used my Leatherman Wave to cut the wire fence from the chain link fence. It worked like a charm.

I'm a firefighter/EMT in WA and on duty I carry the same thing on-duty as off; a 50/50 Endura, some kind of medium SAK, and a Leatherman Wave. I also have a Spyderco Rescue in orange in my bunker jacket.

I carry an Emerson CQC-7A, and a SOG PowerLock, both on duty & off.

I started out using a Gerber, and the Benchmade AFO auto, but what I carry now is the best combo IMHO.

I used to carry a CRKT M16 police model for a while (great knife, still have it). Now I carry a Strider GB, on and off duty. I also carry my Strider SLCC on and off duty. Reagan

Belgian Federal Police. Al Mar SERE 2000 in pocket just above right knee (strong side). SOG Powerplier multitool on back of belt. Microtech LCC D/A in S90V in off-hand pocket or around neck with break-away-chain.

All this reminds me of Jesus'
comment in the Holy Gospel according to Matthew ( don't remember chapter & verse, but it's thar...) "..for
who is greater? The one who sits at the table? Or the one who serves?
Behold, I am amongst you as the one who serves..." You are all "the salt of the earth.." in my book.

AET ;)

BM CQC7 in strong side front pocket, Rekat hobit in inside left boot, letherman micra in left shirt pocket, BM 31 in right shirt pocket, and sometimes a neck knife by either Rekat,Spyderco or BM.

The Bm CQC7 is in rotation with my AlMar SERE 2000 and Spyderco Police SS.

Off duty is a whole other set of knives.

I'm a firefighter in Jersey, UK. I carry a PE Delica in a belt sheath on my station wear and a 50/50 Endura in my fire jacket, along with a pair of 6in combination pliers.
I used to carry a Rescue but replaced it with the Endura because I often found I needed a point on my knife - we have a safe seat belt cutter on the appliances.

I am a FF/EMT in Indianapolis, IN and right now I carry a Spyderco G10 Navigator (which has had the crap beat out of it) clipped to my bunker coat, a gerber multi in sheath on my pants, a Spyderco Ladybug w/ Photon II in a custom neck sheath and any one of my many spydercos clipped in my duty pants.
I love knives.

I also forgot to include my EMT shears that I carry in my bunker pants. One of the most important tools I carry....

I'm a Deputy Sheriff in South Florida. When I'm on duty, I carry a Microtech Socom Elite Manual with the Stonewashed Clippoint plain blade in my right rear trouser pocket. I would prefer it to be in the right front, but my holster gets in the way of me grabbing it. I also carry a Microtech Amphibian manual stonewashed plain blade in my left front trouser pocket. I used to carry a Microtech Kestrel there, but I gave it to a friend, so the amphibian replaced it. Lastly, I carry my small Sebenza clipped to my Ballistic vest, under my shirt.
I almost forgot, I carry a Victorinox swiss tool in a sheath on my duty belt.

Hope this helps,
Jason

I'm a Special Agent with U.S. Customs in an Arms Smuggling/Anti-Terrorism investigative group.

I rotate through a variety of daily carry knives which include a neck knife, SAK and Micra for tools, and a folder such as AFCK, BM 710, Spyderco Wegner, Al Mar SERE 2K, Microtech LCC and large Sebenza amongst others.

My wife gets to pick the jewelry she will to wear to work; I get to pick out the knife assortment for the day.

I'm a FF/EMT in Northern NJ. I carry a Gerber Legend MultiTool, a Spyderco 93MM Rescue, and a Benchmade Rescue Hook. Clipped to my turnout coat I have a Spyderco Remote Release. I also carry in my outer leg pocket a small Ti prybar and a homemade shove knife I designed for opening door locks and windows.

Well...

On the duty belt is a MOD CQD-I, in the new MOD leather sheath, which works great.

Tucked inside the vest is a Benchmade AFO

In the gear bag is a Leatherman Supertool.
