Les Baer/Busse 1911.

Without a doubt. I was speaking of dependablity, and ammo consumption. It is a existing crime that most units issue one pistol and you have to get used to it and qualify with it. But a personal weapon should be fully explored before purchasing.

I love my Kimber 1911 TLE II (with the internal extractor)

But I did a good test of several 45s at the range:

Springfield XD45
Glock 21
Ruger P90
Kimber 1911 TLE II

All of them shot over 100 rounds without any malfunctions that day.
I did my best shooting with the 1911 and the xd was a close second with the glock a very close third as far as accuracy.

The way they felt in my hand was in the same order as their accuracy (I wonder if the ergonomics had anything to do with it;) )

The 1911 gave me trouble when I used the kimber factory mags, but when I switched to Wilson mags I never had a problem except when the spirings get worn out after a couple thousand rounds.

The 1911 is my favorite to shoot and it also has the cool factor...
but I live in SW Florida and rust can be a problem even with stainless carry guns down here. The 1911 is thinner but heavier than the xd and glock.

I love glocks but the G21 is a little too thick compared to the XD in my hands.
If I lived in a drier climate I would carry the Kimber more but the XD can withstand the humidity and has a much higher capacity (13+1 vs 7+1).

That all said I really want to get a Nighthawk Talon II or an Ed Brown Kobra Carry. I have handled both and REALLY want one.

I am thinking about getting rid of the G21 because that spot has been filled by the XD45. I'd rather have a Badger Attack than my G21... call me crazy.

i carry a Kimber Elite Carry from the custom shop. it eats everything, though i keep it stacked with corbons. I use a glock 21c in my 3 gun competitions, its great too, but to thick for carry. Glock is coming out with a slimeline 21 next year though. but id i had the cash, i 'd buy the wilson, or of course the les baer/busse!

Are you locked in on the 1911 platform? There are other options, including some I won't mention just because I refuse to endorse the plastic fantastic brigade (fine if you like them, I don't). The pictures below are pistols, but a great option would be the S&W 25/625 series. I still don't own one, but I will someday.

If you're just wanting Home/Range fun, the full size Kimber is more fun to shoot (IMO). I've had zero problems with this one:

good luck, and try not to think about how many Busses you could buy for the same price

I carry an 8 degree Callaway Great Big Bertha that on most days I'm accurate with from 255-270 yards. For shorter stuff I use a Taylor Made 3-wood.

i prefer the titleist 7.5 myself. also titleist 13.5 and 18.5.

my shots are extremely accurate, to about 20 yards of the face, then have a tendency to take on a mind of their own.

I'm new to 1911s and just scratched my itch for one by purchasing a Taurus PT1911B(lue). They're getting a lot of good press and at $617 m.s.r.p. it was easy on my tight budget. I paid $469 + tax.........haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

I know I should have been satisfied with my Glock 36 but I guess it was some kind of primal urge or something.....

the more the merrier. havent shot the taurus yet, but 1911's, i find, point the best, and i love the grip angle. i think you will be happy and never look at your glock the same way again.

So many choices... so little cash

I have several 1911 pistols... Colt, 1st gen Kimber, Knighthawk and a nice Nowlin 9x23... all are great pistols. I'd say try a couple if you can, look for the features you feel you 'must have' and then get what you can. Each have their own merits, but I carry my NH Talon and Nowlin an aweful lot and love both.

Here's my Talon I

Oh, I also have, and love, my Sig P220, but for my best shooting it's hard to beat the single action trigger of John Browning's greatest (in my opinion) design.

Nice gun, and nice rig. Is that Sparks holster?

Matteo...

Thanks and yes, it's a Milt Sparks VMII. I also carry in one of his Summer Special IIs as well. A great pistol deserves a great holster.

I must admit that I've seen one of the Baer/Busse combos over on Gunsamerica and thought "I've got the room on the credit card..." Then I thought better of it. I'm pretty cheap when it comes to guns. I've had a couple of Kimber 1911's and a one Colt, as well as a Glock 21, and currently own a Springfield XD 4" in .45ACP and a S&W 625-10 (Scandium snubnose).

I use/used my .45's for regular IDPA use and occasional carry. You have to decide what your primary use will be and how much you want to spend. I love the 1911 platform, but after owning 3 and shooting a lot of IDPA over the last couple of years, it takes some work to make them reliable. Usually your looking at replacing the factory mags, finding the right ammo, maybe tweaking and tuning, etc.

I've see a lot more hiccups out of 1911's than I have Glocks, XD's, or revolvers. I include Wilson, Nighthawk, and STI in this group. I personally would be very upset if my $3,000 1911 wouldn't make it through a 75 round IDPA match without a jam.

All that being said, one of the most reliable 1911's I know of is a friend of mine's basic Kimber Custom II that he tuned the extractor on to reliably feed his semi-wadcutter reloads.

Please don't take this as a knock on 1911's as I love them and actually maybe going back to one.
