Les Baer/Busse Combat 1911... Experience?

I also respectfully disagree with the concept of buying a Colt or other base pistol, and tricking it out to Baer standards. It has been my experience that you will spend more in the long run, and not recoup your investment if you want or need to sell. Baer factory guns hold their value over a custom build on another factory base model. And in the end, you will spend the same amount or more to get to the level of fit, finish and function of a Baer.

Interesting and valid points.

OTOH, I have never purchased a firearm of any sort as an investment. For me, return on that expense is measured solely in shooting pleasure, not resale value.

If resale value is not the goal, your options open up a bit. The Yost 1* package and the Baer Concept 1 are approximately the same cost (~$1500). If you can find a pawn shop bargain (admittedly not a sure thing), you'll save money having them build it on your gun rather than the supplied 1911. I have a rather worn pre-Series 70 Combat Commander that is just crying out for such a package. I would prefer starting there and working up rather than short-circuiting the process by buying an out-of-the-box custom. Different strokes, etc.

I'll stand by my original suggestion, as caveated above.

That's the great thing about knives and guns... No one option works for everyone, but the companies out there got that covered :D

I would also prefer starting with a base pistol.

That's what I've done with both my carry 1911's.

One is a 18YO 1911A1 from Springfield and the other is a Colt Bright Stainless OACP. The work for both was done by Kings Gun Works.

Nothing too special on the 1911A1, on the outside, Beavertail, Flat MS housing, S&A Mag guide, skeleton hammer and trigger, King Tappan combat sights. Still the same old 2 toned Park finish, more than a little ugly.

The inside is a different story. This is where Kings really work their magic, and that's where I wanted it.

Maximum reliability and better than stock accuracy.

With everything, well under $1K.

The Officers ACP was a bit more expensive since more was done to it. But, MAN! It now shoots and functions as good as it looks!

Ya gotta understand that the bright stainless is like a Busse satin finish and really looks like a pimp gun till you get to that really big hole in the end. LOL

I got the gun in a trade, otherwise I would have opted for the matt stainless or Parked steel.

Not big on looks, as all I expect anyone who sees it is muzzle flash.

See if you can find a decent user Colt Series 70 or, an older SA.
