Les in the Amazon would have to me a personal hell for me

all the ants and flys and stuff out there to end your perpetual breathing cycle. I dont' think I'm man enough to handle that place.

I shudder at how much extra weight he had to carry around in that ep due to the insect biomass.

I grew up in a sub-tropical area (south Texas) and, while I realized it's hard to compare different climates and physical environments, what got me was how many flying insects there were while it was raining. I know jungle rain forests have a lot of insect life (as we saw) but I guess I've never lived in a place where flying bugs were hardy enough to be really active during rain showers.

Granted, many of those bugs looked like they could easily have carried off a camera.

I hate flies and gnats and all the other nasties crawling around camp. Across my entire life of being outside, I've never been able to get along well with them. There are few things as irritating as constantly having to swat bugs away from your face, or to wipe them off your skin so you don't have 2 million more weird bites.

I'm definitely with you, that sort of survival situation would be a veritable hell. :barf::thumbdn:

there was one scene where he must have had 1000 flys on his shirt and face. I know it's minor in the grand scheme of things, but damn that would suck.

Every few years we get flies in numbers like that, we also get this large type of fly that bites you for your blood. It would suck to live constantly like that :/

yes, I thought the same thing about all the clouds of pests. I would've ended up with black lung from living in a massive smudge cloud for a solid week.

I have always thought that I could survive just about anywhere with most of what I think I know but I have always considered a rain forest the absolute worst possible scenerio for me. I really don't know if I would have what it takes with the skeeters and other blood sucking and poisonous and fanged things out there. It is an environment that I don't know well enough and it seems like everything out there is trying to kill you. I don't know if I could survive it but I know for sure that I wouldn't enjoy it.

in the spring here it gets nasty with black flies and mosquito's .. i have seen caribou go mad trying to buck and bite them off . they will be all in their eyes and ears real heavy ..

they would for no reason just take off in a tear ,trying to rid em .. while hunting during that time of year up north i wear a head net to keep sane .

oh good god that's awfull. I'm still itchy from watching that episode. I swear I got mosquito bites from watching that episode.

I actually bought one of those head nets a few weeks ago, and I'm not even in such an area. But when those bugs hit, you want 'em away ASAP.

I havn't seen this one yet but I really enjoyed my time in the amazon. Yep the bugs were pretty bad, I wore my rain gear most of the time and my feet were pretty much giant mosquito bites. Only once did I have to abandon a camp due to insect overrun (bullet ants among others). Lots of pretty easy food at least. If you've got a bit of gear(machete, mosquito net, hook and line) its not to bad. I'll need to go see this one as the amazon is pretty close to my heart.

I'm not sure if this is true, maybe wayne can confirm. But I have heard that during bug season a carriboo can loose a pint of blood a week to bug bites.

My wife commented that he looked like an ant hill...
