On june 16 at 1:46 pm I posted on les`s forum that I was looking for 2 al polkowski guant neck knives. A couple of member posted back that I should contace Les personally. Meanwhile I had gotten in contact with Al on the phone and ordered 2. Later I got an e-mail from Les telling me that he had one and that I could have it for 155.00. On his web site that I just checked at 6:50 he shows that he has none in stock that you can order for 135.00. At any rate I had talked to Al Polkowski on the phone about a month ago about getting a guant. He said that I seemed like a nice guy and that he was making one to take to a show, I believe in Conn. He told me to call him around the 10th of june and he had just as soon sell it to me as any one else. So I started calling him around tha 6th. I called several times every day and all I got was the answering machine. Finally yesterday he answered and I got to talk to him personally. He told me he was sorry but that the guant had been sold. He said to make it up to me that he would make me 2 to be delivered in a month to a month and a half if I would send him a 60.00 deposit. I immediately put the check in the mail. Heck of a nice guy. So today I got an e-mail from Les Robertson at 5:53 pm on his forums and I quote "Thanks for the recomendation guys. I told Roger that I havae one. He passed and ordered directly from Al. Guess he didn`t need them till 2002. LOL. I e-mailed him back on his forums and both his and my forums were deleted, missing, gone. I guess if you can moderate your own forums, that you can delete any thing that puts you in a bad light. Is that the way it works? Doesn`t sound kosher to me. Walker.

post,

Here we go... LOOK, I don't want to step on ANYONES toes but I'll give you MY thoughts on this scenario:

AL's knives are VERY MUCH in demand right now. I myself have had quite a number of his blades & am awaiting more. The thing is, if I WANTED one NOW & could get one for $25-50.00 more, hell I would pay it! That is just MY OPINION. You were lucky that AL will make you 2 of them & you can take delivery within 2 months!

All I can say is that I am VERY HAPPY with my dealings with Les! IMO, he's a HELL of a good guy as well! His service of getting me customs I WANT YESTERDAY IS EXCEPTIONAL!!! Remember: You will pay a bit of a premium from a Purveyor, but you get your knives ALOT FASTER than you can from the MAKER... at least MOST of the time...

As for your thread disappearing: Why didn't' you ask him about it B4 you post this big rant trying to cast him in a negative light?

I'm not being confrontational... (YET) just wondering...

I didn`t post anything to hime at all . He posted me and made the remarks about waiting until 2002 and lots of luck. Only then did I post back. I was not going to post anything until I got that a day after the fact. I just believe if you you are your own moderator that you should take the good with the bad. Walker

post,

I have seen the thread you are referring to. I would assume it was mostly said in jest. Anyway, U GOT LUCKY! Les was RIGHT. If AL wasn't in a good mood, you would have waited until 2002 for those Gaunts...

Cougar:

U r right... this is CONFUSING!!! LOL!

This is very confusing. You seem to have misunderstood some of the terminology of the net, Post, and that looks like it might be causing some of the confusion. Email and posts on a forum are not the same thing -- email is private -- only the person you send it to sees it. So if you sent Les email and he sent you email and neither message can be found on his forum -- that's normal.

Yes altilla, the original threads from yesterday are there. But the 2 from today are missing. I would not be on the good bad and ugly forums if he had left the threads there.

Post, Lord knows Les isn't perfect, but IMHO I think you're not being completely fair. Generally speaking, Les is the best source for Al's knives. [Proedge has some too, but Les gets Al to do amazing things. We're not sure how
smile.gif
]That's why I was one of those who referred you to him. I've had a few dealings with Les and have always been completely satisfied. I've also dealt with Al directly and although he really is a great guy, it is true that you were very lucky to secure such an early delivery date and such a good price [although Al's prices probably are too low]. The point is that Les's comment about 2002, if that's what he said, wasn't really off the mark, giving due regard to a bit of exaggeration for rhetorical or comic purposes. Usually Les gets them to you faster than direct from Al, unless you luck out at a show. As far as the price is concerned, I can't address the numbers you quoted specifically but it wouldn't be surprising if there were a small difference as between maker and dealer or as between web site and email where prices are going up or changing. I accept the point about a small premium for earlier availability being appropriate, but in my experience Les doesn't do that and usually offers pretty much the same price as direct [although if I'm wrong about that don't blame Les, that's just my understanding and is in no way a representation that should be laid at Les's feet] I will say that if there was a real disparity between a posted price or Al's price and the one quoted by Les, you should have brought it up for sure. But why the heck wouldn't you talk to Les about it directly? He is a good businessman and a reasonable guy [with a temper] and if you had an arguement to make, he probably would listen. If he didn't, OK, then blast him. We'd join in too. No problem here with a fair fight. But complaining like this ex post facto and publicly without giving the man a chance, in real time, is just an incitation. Your point, even if it's a good one, will get lost in the inevitable dispute about how your point was raised.
Finally, about the deletions. I don't agree with deletions at all, unless they are duplications. Abuse of a moderator's power is terrible and I detest it. But an unjustified allegation to that effect is almost as bad. Be very careful before you make one. Frankly, I haven't investigated what was deleted and why. However, I did notice when I was answering your posts to help you out, that there were at least three duplicate threads that you posted about exactly the same thing. That was improper form and there should have been only one thread. I'm sure you can appreciate why. If some duplicates were deleted, that is understandible. Maybe that explains it, rather than the suggestion of abuse of moderator's power. But on this point I would reiterate that I haven't investigated the details. With all due respect to you, I would tend to give Les the benefit of the doubt. So should you. He's earned it. Now if you told me he blew his top and called you things that would make a sailor cry, nolo contendre from me. Actually, wait a little while and see what comes
biggrin.gif

Anyway, I'm glad you're getting your knives, you lucky dog. Just don't burn your bridges unnecessarily. Who knows, you may want another Polkowski or a Vanguard, and Les will still be the man.

I dunno about Les' forum, but the exact same conversation you quoted is STILL on the Custom Forum:
http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001225.html

You asked where you could get the Polkowskis, HJK and I recommended Les, Les posted that you had passed up the one that he had in inventory, then you posted your story. Wassup with that? Do you have the forums confused?

Oh yeah, I also agree that you're way too quick to post negative things here. Try working things out with Les FIRST before posting this stuff here.

Senator, you`re right. I opened my mouth to quick. I have my forums mixed up. My most sincere apologies to Les Robertson. It was actually on the custom knife forums. My apologies to all for the mix up. Next time I`ll be a little slower to jump on the bandwagon. I still think his remarks to me a day after the fact were uncalled for. Walker

Roger,

My comments were based on Al's normal quoted 18 month delivery time.

As for me charging more for Al's knife, I paid full price for the one I am selling. Somethimes it is the only way I can get Al's knives. I don't feel a $25.00 mark up is excessive. Especially, considering you can have the knife now.

Besides, you didn't request 2 and at Al's price.

I would suggest to you that you look at what other dealers charge for Al's work before you condem me for my knives.

You seemed very happy with the last Polkowski you bought from me.

For my part I will be calling Al to find out why he is now quoting 4-6 weeks.

Roger,

I just checked my forum. Your posts and my reply are still there.

So what deletions are you talking about?

Once you find out you were wrong about this, I sure you will be as quick to apolgize as you were to condem.

Didn't he apologize 3-4 posts above?!?!?

Now that's a fast apology!

Geezzzzz.........

Just when I'm about to jump on the bandwagon screaming and yelling at Post....'nuff said.

I know I'm VERY guilty of passing judgment too quickly, but, wow, this was kinda rude if ya ask me.

Post, no hard feelings, you recognized your error and apologized.

Les, thanks for being a gentleman after what could have happened here.

Les, if you want another apology you got it. I sincerely apologize. On friday when i was looking for the gaunts i made 3 seperate posts. One on the les robersons forumk, one on the blade discussion forum, and one on the custom blade forum. On all these posts i said i was looking for 2 of his guants. I always collect 2 of everything. Even the polkowski that i bought from you i sold to Blues on the forums because i had talked to al about it and they were not available anymore. I believe he said that he only made a dozen or so, so i got rid of it because i knew i would not be able to get another one. As for Al`s waiting time, i,m sure it`s still 18 months. I think i explained why he made an exception for me in one of the treads above. As for your price of 155.00, I would have bought them in a minute if you had 2 of them. And of course I had no way of knowing that you hadn`t got them directly from Al. Meanwhile, before I got back to your e-mail I got Al on the phone and you know the rest.
again I apologize and hope there`s no hard feelings. Like one of the threads above said, it`s best not to burn any bridges. I hope I didn`t.

FWIW:

I have bought from Les, found him to be knowledgeable and honorable, and his word was kept when he gave it. (Okay, so maybe he can be a bit abrasive at times.
wink.gif
)

I have also dealt with "Post". As he stated above, I bought the Polkowski Bandit that he had previously bought from Les. It was exactly as described and at a very fair price given what it was and its condition.

I found Post (Roger) to be a gentleman in my conversations with him over the telephone and via email. It was my luck that he collects two of everything and couldn't get another Bandit, otherwise I'd not own a very fine Polkowski today.

I think Roger gets jumped on a bit much here. I will agree that he isn't as eloquent or glib as some, but the man is a good man and I am pretty sure comes here with no malice aforethought.

Frankly, I thought some of the remarks directed at him in the current and previous threads were a bit cavalier, and sometimes downright caustic without giving the understanding that is usually asked for by the very same attackers.

Anyway, you know what I mean.
Roger's a good guy, Les is a good guy, let's move on and not flog this pony any further. It ain't gettin' up.

Posts don't cross as often on web forums as on usenet, but it can happen. Look at the times and you'll see Les posted only 8 minutes after Post's apology -- he was in the message writing window when the apology was posted and didn't see it until later. He wasn't asking for a second apology; he hadn't seen the first one yet.

Some other posts crossed in this thread, too, but I think that's the only time it caused confusion.

Looks like it's all resolved, from my viewpoint. Thank goodness.
Anyway, I like the idea of buying two. One to keep in pristine condition and one to use or play with and enjoy. Unfortunately, it's an expensive proposition. But it makes alot of sense.
