Les Stroud calling it quits with Survivorman

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the two episodes I've watched from season 3 he seems more irritable than in previous seasons. The scene where he's discussing the two fish he caught was a perfect example, you could just tell he had enough. I think he's making the right choice. I hope someone equally competant takes his place.

Yeah, he seems a bit fed up with having to do it all on his own. I mean, he could easily outlast me in the wildy, but having to stop and go, stop and go with all of those cameras by himself has to have its toll on the poor guy.

I don't think I could do that repeatedly throughout the day and not have eaten for a few days while doing it.

I do think it would be nice if he just made a series of him camping out with real equipment for a week stay and just show some fun essentials to having a great campout.

Les seams like a nice guy and I wish him well with his future endeavors but Survivorman is incredibly boring to watch. I think the concept of "all alone in the Wild" was overplayed at the expense of quality footage and scripting. Lugging around all the camera gear just so he could do it on his own made it more contrived. I hope he gets a good show with a desent film crew and support. I did like the episode where he jumped into a frozen lake to demonstrate techniques for survival in such a situation. Oh, yeah that was the Gryls guy. And I don't care if he slept in a hotel afterward. It's better than burning out and whinning about the other guy.

I noticed his lack of enthusiasm right off in the first show of the third season, my wife commented on it as well. He'll be missed for sure. Man vs Wild, is a great way to teach kids what NOT to do if lost in the woods, Les is a much better example for kids.

I never found his shows boring... ever. I was a bit envious that he (or anyone but me) found a way to make a living at it, and I hadn't :) Seriously thou, I doubt there will be a replacement for Les. Most of my outdoors friends I met via his forums.

I, for one, am glad that he is going out with style. He has shown a multitude of survival skills in just about every concievable climate and terrain on earth. I have no doubt he will do well in future endeavors. I would like to see him do an episode with a decently tricked out BOB that could be stored in a plane or car trunk.

I did see a show with him in it where he did jump into freezing water, him and this other guy, and then they checked him out with a heat vision camera to show the affects...there were other things in the show too, it was a good watch.

I think theres plenty of quality footage in survivorman, he gets a lot of great shots. His off the cuff style of narration is pretty good too.

My brother mentioned, as well as someone else, he is a bit dramatic, and the way he talked about how dangerous the horses could be got a bit annoying after the 7th time.
I am excited about the way this season is going, though, both shows have added some new and exciting elements.

I'll miss the show, I have enjoyed it more than any other tv show that I can think of - well excluding the old school GI Joe cartoons I watched when I was a kid- man, I loved those!
