OK, I take customer confidentiality very seriously, but I can't contain it any longer. Les Stroud (or his assistant) ordered a Badger firesteel from me a couple of weeks back. I could tell from the shipping address and email that the order was legit. I sent him about 20 times the value of the firesteel in all kinds of other stuff, so maybe you'll see a Going Gear product for 1/10th of a second on one of his future shows. ;)

That's awesome, congrats! I try to catch survivorman whenever possible and hope to see your products on it. Great prices on the site btw. I really need to get an order going soon;)

That's weird. I thought he always carried around a car battery or a guitar to make fires.:D

Cool! I like Les Stroud. His book was excellent, and he seems like the real deal.

You see KGD, I told you if we set up that address and Les Stroud email account we would get free gear:thumbup::cool:

:D

He no longer tapes Survivorman shows. But I have seen that kids' survival show he does on Nickelodeon or whatever network it is. Sure wish Survivorman would make a comeback.

That's cool. One thing I can pretty much guarantee--he is going to love that firesteel the first time he puts it to use and sees firsthand how it compares to the standard ones.

I placed an order with you this afternoon. You've got a good site.

Were the freebies given to him based on his celebrity, or his donation to the survival world? To me, it's kinda like when they give out the $80,000 gift baskets at the Grammys and whatnot...those folks can afford that stuff on their own, so why do they need it for free? I'm not saying play communist and pass it around, but if he only wanted 1 firesteel, that's all he should have received.

I too am a fan of the Survivorman program, but freebies based on celebrity really chap my backside. Should he continue to provide television content and can put those items to use, then by all means, but it's hard to demonstrate how to gather materials and build a fire through a cartoon...

Thats Very Cool !!!! That reminds me that I need another firesteel :p
I'll holler at you later

While I haven't seen his new show yet, I understand it's live-action, not a cartoon.

That's pretty awesome!

Still have his book sittin on my shelf waiting to be read...might actually have some time to get around to it now...

then I can retract the 2nd half of my mini-rant...but I still stick with freebies based on celebrity are crap. Yes, I understand it's his web-store and he can do as he pleases, but I ordered 1 firesteel and 2 carabiners from them, and received my exact order (in a timely fashion)...I didn't receive "20 times that" in extras. I'm sure he and his producers have an entire army of outdoor gear sponsors who contribute to the show, which means anything Les orders is most likely for personal use.
