Les Stroud ordered a firesteel from me

You should've sent him out with a Bladeforum link,or such.Tell him he's very admired & respected over here...Hey ,I guess it couldn't hurt.Right?

Oh well, good on you for supplying him for his new ventures:thumbup:

...those folks can afford that stuff on their own, so why do they need it for free?

Because they probably wouldn't buy that stuff anyway. Celebrities have a lot more exposure than you or me, so it's just marketing - if you see them using a product, it must be good.

Anyway, it's still cool to know Les bought something from someone here.

Agreed. If anyone would be welcome and appreciated here it would be Les. Send him a link and ask him to stop by. I'm sure we'd all love a chance to gab with him.

It is often done for marketing purposes.

True, it is good business. It is also for appreciation of the persons efforts. The company has also been more than generous to me in the past and I will continue to do business. It says alot that he selected the company.

The new show is live action, kids being taught how to survive.

I think if Les called me and wanted one of my sheaths - I would hook him up. Why? Because he has been an inspiration to me - and I have loved his shows. It is that simple.

It is often done for marketing purposes.

And it's a very smart move in marketing as well. How much advertising comes from threads like, "hey what was that widget that Ray Mears used in the video where he.." Good move. Mac

If you received what you ordered in a timely fashion, then you got what you asked for. If he wants to send Les some free stuff, more power to him.

Could be a "Thank you for a job well done" maybe?

I will definitely agree with you when celebs start to expect gratuities, but Les genuinely seems like a decent, regular guy to me.

That's really cool! Are the Badgers better than the light my fire fire steels? and how so?

Maybe not better, just different. The sparks from my firesteels will burn longer and hotter than ones from a LMF firesteel, but are a bit harder to produce if you are not used to the proper technique.

I was exaggerating a bit on the 20 times in value line. I sent him a t-shirt and a few other odds and ends. I did not do it as much for marketing purposes as I did just as a thanks for his being a rare bright spot in the usual soulless crap that makes up reality TV. I honestly highly doubt that anything I sent will make it to his shows or would even be recognizable or traced back to me.

I posted in here about it because I thought you guys would think it was neat. You all already know about and order a ton of my firesteels, so it's not like I'm looking to increase my W&SS exposure. Regardless, my business is my livelihood and sole source of income, and I have to treat it as such. If I have the opportunity to capitalize on even a tiny chance spread awareness about my business, I will take full advantage.

Regarding free stuff in other orders, I always put in freebies on orders over $10. You will not see that advertised anywhere on my site; I just do it as a thanks to customers. I basically break even on smaller orders, so it's hard to justify doing the same on them.

Yeah, I don't think Celebrities expect free stuff as much as it is an opportunity for a company to get free advertising, or to try and get a new customer. If a celebrity likes your product, and starts buying it and they friends start buying it, then that is good for business. And if Anyone sees them using said product, that is great for business.

Very nice of you Storl, that's pretty cool to have him buy something from you. I'd of done the same thing. One of the only guys who has put "survival" in a good light on TV.

P.S. I am so stoked that you started selling firesteels with spycapsules as handles. I used to make them to include with my knives, but it will be much easier to just buy them from you now.

I'll have to make this a public apology. I've been feeling like everyone has one-up on me recently, and my comments were not meant to be directed to you personally, but rather the idea.

It's cool that he is just like everyone else and uses the same products we do for survival situations.

Please don't take my previous comments personally, and don't think that I regret purchasing from you. I do direct my friends to your site when they are looking for similar products, as you do have the best pricing I've found on the net.

:o

No hard feelings. I'm easy going, so you'd have to do something pretty bad to make me mad. Just don't mess with my flashlights and we won't have a fight on our hands. :D

Les is a cool guy. He and I share the same wilderness skills mentor. He has a couple of my pouches and a firesteel.

Good stuff ,Storl.
