Les made a show about living off the grid. It aired on the Canadian OLN a little while back. Does anyone know when it will air in the USA, and on what channel?

I had it on my DVR for weeks & just deleted it earlier this week. Never even occured to me to burn it to disc, sorry. I liked it too, made the girlfriend watch it in hopes of getting her excited about solar panels & cutting hydro costs.

Thanks for the link, but that isn't the show I meant. Les has like 160 acres and set up his house with solar panels, composting toilets, all that kind of stuff. I think the show was an hour and a half. I hope it airs in America soon.



Damn bubba, that would have been cool!!

He also did one on surviving urban disasters ala Katrina, and it was decent. That one they did show here :rolleyes:
 
The show was called Off the Grid, I think it is planned as a pilot for a series. not sure though
 
Yeah, it was Off The Grid, 90mins long & while a one episode deal it was definitely something he could spin off to a whole season eventually if he wanted. I have seen it listed in the guide since I recorded it so it will likely be on again. I will keep my eyes open Doc & drop you a line if I see it listed here again.
 
Off the Grid, Les Stroud's 90min doc on his sustainable energy house is going to be on again today, Wed, Feb 7 at 4pm on OLN here in Canada in case any of you locals still haven't seen it.

I never got it hoping it would make me more productive, but now i just sit on my arse in front of the computer.
Thanks for the heads up anyway, I'll get someone to tape it or something.

It's actually 1 hour and 7 1/2 minutes, if you don't have to watch commercials <g>.

You get to see his wife, daughter and son. Pretty interesting..., wish I could live in the (way out there) trees!

Fairly expensive for what he was doing... had to use a helicopter to move wood through the snow and mud to where he was building a little hut.

There IS a BitTorrent of this show in the internet... but you have to move 500 megabytes (about 3 hours using DSL). Email me if you need the address.

Get satellite Liam Call STARCHOICE, info on their web site. We had sat. tv up north were there was no cable. They send you this dish for free and you get a $50.00 movie credit. It is the same cost, or cheaper than cable......Now back to Stroud. I saw OFF THE GRID last night. I like the concept actually. Les must have a penny or two tucked away. First he trucked lumber to the acerage that they bought, then he hired a helicopter to fly it in. Their daughter seemed to adapt to the transition of semi isolated bush living, but it looks rough for their son. Children will be a factor in a lifestyle transition such as this.
