Les Stroud vs Bear Grylls: The Survive-Off

I've been one of the forerunners in criticising the Bear, but something tells me that, despite his goofy antics on his show, he wouldn;t be a pushover in a survival situation. I don;t think there's enough evidence to pick a winner between two guys thrust out into the wilds (yes, I'm aware of Les's extended stays in the woods).

Now, picking a winner in a survival show series? Well, Survivorman is a serious show.... Man v Wild is not much more than a sitcom, albeit an interesting one. I'll take Survivorman any day of the week, but I'll watch the Bear every time he's on too. Who can resist? :)

Make sure you check out the link "Day One" and "Day Two" near the bottom of the page. Whoever made this it is pretty funny....

;)

Stretch I would go with you on the guess that Bear is far from a pushover when it comes to the outdoors. It may be more entertainment but I figure that man is pretty tough. However I like Les...why? just more realistic to me. He is more like your "average Joe" and even he isnt really out of shape.

If one of them ever dies out in the bush, I predict Les' last words would be "Damn, there goes my femoral artery!" while Eddie's last words would be "When I was in the British special forces, we frequently trained in *drop, crash, bang* Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah..."

uh, I think they stole my idea, posted here weeks ago.

I guess I'll let them have it, they seem to be more into it than I would be.

Ha ha ha, that's exactly the way it would end. I'd slightly modify Bear's with a dozen more crash bangs and a longer aaaaaaaah because it would be off of one of the high cliffs he likes to run on the edge of.

hahaha great page!

my money is on Les

i'm sure Bear will do something stupid and get himself killed

I would go with Les for skill and maybe conditioning as well as he admits to adventure racing which would give him the edge indurance wise.

Would Bear be allowed to take his survival advisor? Who ever that is, he knows his stuff, I think I learn more from MvW cause of him.
My $ would be on Les, he has BTDT, not going in when the camera goes off. But Bear is also well conditioned, anyone that can come back from severe injury to do what he does gets a thumbs up in my book. I am still trying a year later, to do what I used to.

Okay, the person who wrote this obviously hasnt seen much of man vs wild. I’ve seen Bear make fire out of virtually anything. I also watch Les Stroud, to make fun of him. Stroud is given a match, snacks, and a multi-tool. Bear is given just a knife and a flint. Stroud stays in just one spot, and has his rescue set up. Bear has to find his way out. Stroud also comes up with the most ridiculous techniques I have ever seen, and you say he’s realistic. And to the so-called Joe Gregory, how can his rafts be supplied to him if he makes them right on camera? And what they hell is everyone who is hating on Bear talking about when they say he books hotels? In the middle of the Amazon? In the middle of the Icelandic tundra? On a deserted island? At the bottom of Copper Canyon? In the Costa Rican rainforest? That is just plain ridiculous.

Hands down, the winner is Bear Grylls. Period.

Actually, the posts there give a good indication of who their fans are and why, and their views of the information presented on both series. It does seem to indicate that quite a few believe Edward presents true information and can overcome all adversity with youth and endurance. Most also have bought his hyped resume lock-stock and barrel as well. It is just as bad with the other fans though. Their reasoning put forth for their preferences, by and large, reflects their exhuberent youth rather than mental retardation.

the one that says that Les just sits around 7 days in a hut wining about being hungry was also quite humorous :D

or the one that says that he learned nothing from Les, and that Les ate nothing a whole episode except some berries and a mushroom and Les said that maybe the mushroom might be poisonous lol

I really like them both and can't say who would win as their shows are quite different.

Les, does it all himself, and is a badass for that, but sometimes he doesn't impress me. Like the episode in season 1 when he was stuck in ocean. Basically we watched him stuuck in the oceaen complaining, then he got to shore, pulls his raft onto the beach, got a coconut and some conche shells. Then two days later he is rescued. He gets props for surviving the ordeal, but I didn't learn a damn thing from him!

Bear does a better job of presenting useful information for the audience, which allows me to learn a lot more. But he's got the camera crew and there is a stack of evidence that he hasn't been doing it all on his own.

It would be cool to see both of them given the same challenge and the same tools.
