Les Stroud vs Bear Grylls: The Survive-Off

everyone just keeps saying the same ish about Eddie but we all know deep down inside of us he would win and Les wouldnt know what to do without his camera gear and only move about 300ft from his original camp site

Bear is ex-British SAS. I think he is clearly the winner over an aging hippie. He probably has very little say about what goes on in the show. He has to make it entertaining, not realistic.

Bear is clearly the physically stronger IMO, (and probably mentally tougher).

Climbed Everast, crossed the artic circle, British SAS for awhile, broke his back in three places but recovered so well he's still stronger then most of the population... ect.

People claim Bear is a fake and stuff but hey, Survivorman really is more of documenting camping trips. With all the gear (Axes, multi tools, knives, extra clothes, coats, and shoes, ect). he carries who knows if he has MREs or energy bars with fresh water...

Both have entertaining shows, only in their own way. Neither of them are really "experts" they both have professional survival instructors helping them out. Survivorman spends a week in advance in the area with a local expert. Bear has experts teach him everything before hand too.

I like Bear a bit more because he carries what EVERYONE should be carrying. Flint (or lighter for us), a knife, ect...

Les is cool cause he sometimes shows interesting things though...

I think they'd both survival equally well in the same situation.

and you guys do know that Les always has his crew with insite of him dont you? so hes not really out there "alone"

The first few days he has a crew helping him set up and stuff, after that they move a few miles away. He keeps a sat phone with him just in case.

More of a camping documentary IMO.

I've seen him make numerous mistakes. (Some incredibly stupid).

In the latest show him and his entire crew had to be airlifted out by chopper. :D

Enlighten us please:confused:

True he has a SAT phone. Yes he makes mistakes, some very irresponsible. He still does not stay in a Motel 8 at night.

BTW the survival day one and two are absolutely hilarious. As far as survival goes. I'm sure Bear is no pushover, but my $$$ is on Les. Why.... because I like him better;)

he's said it on a couple episodes ever seen the adrift one the crew is always within sight and even comes to help him out a couple times. plus how in the world could your show be called survivorman when your carrying around a gun on every episode and have every tool at your disposal and know where shelters are that you can go to if its too rough

Honestly I'd put all my money on Bruce Perry from going tribal:
"Commissioned by the British Royal Marines in May 1988, Bruce Parry completed one year of management, leadership and commando training before spending several years as a troop commander.
In the Royal Marines, Parry specialized as a physical training instructor and became the youngest officer ever to be in charge of all physical aspects of Royal Marines commando training. He also served in Norway and Iraq before retiring as a lieutenant after six years of service.
As an expeditioner, the 35-year-old resident of England has personally organized and led more than 15 major expeditions to extreme parts of the world. Parry has extensive remote experience in the desert, arctic, jungle and mountains."

I don't think that is a fair assessment of Les at all. He and his wife spent a year in the Wabakimi. I'm not familiar with the area, but doesn't look like a Scout trip to me:confused:

I've seen all the episodes and I don't think he carries a gun on all the shows. In fact the only two I can remember is the Canadian Arctic (polar bears) and in the lost at sea where he had a signal gun. Maybe you can come up with some proof to fill us all in.

you obv havent seen all the episodes cause on the very last epidose(amazon) he has a gun

The Amazon was not the very last episode, Labrador was. What kind of gun was he carrying??? He was given a Soda, and a machete. Missed the gun:confused:

WHAT THEY OUGHT TO DO IS DROP SUM INNOCENT SHEEPLE LOSER IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND FILM HOW HE TRIES TO SURVIVE8888!!!!!

filmed to the very grim end, now THAT wud be real survival
:D

Are you saying he has a concealed gun that he doesn't show us, and you just caught a glimpse of it:confused: Honestly I have no idea what you're talking about. I know for sure he doesn't have a gun on every episode, nor does he have access to "every conceivable tool" at his disposal:rolleyes:

um he had it because of the jaguars did you not watch it? he even dismantled the handle where he had holes drilled out with extra supplies in them... and i didnt say conceivable dont "quote" me on stuff i didnt say

You are confusing the Amazon episode with Labrador. It is the Labrador episode where he displays the drilled-out storage compartment in his gunstock.

Les had no gun in the Amazon episode.

btuner,

You are mistaken on the Amazon episode. He had a spear and a machete - no firearm. The firearm was in the Labrador episode, where he was on the dog sled. The whole point of the episode was to show that some times things may go wrong but you DO have gear with you. He always tries to have a few items with him that might be with someone when they are stranded. (i.e. scavenging parts off of a mtn bike/motorcycle/truck for things that might help.)

The only other episode where I recall Les taking a firearm was the artic episode from last season where he said it was required because of the polar bear threat. He didn't hide the fact.

Bear is more fun to watch than Les. Les does it the hard way, true, but man does he ever whine and gripe about things. I don't know who would actually be the better survivor....I tend to think that they would both do okay.

Miss quote aside, yes I did watch it! You obviously did not. He didn't have a gun in the Amazon "becouse of the Jaguars" , that was in Labrador. The .22LR with the hollowed out stock for extra supplies.

I think outside of a production environment it would be very tough to say. Les's skills are more apparent to me watching both shows but I think Bear could probably stay alive pretty well when he isn't doing the "Feats of Strength" he is always doing on his show. Maybe they are trying to keep an female audience tuned in with all the flexing and always staying wet LMAO. I really think that Bear is the more physically fit of the two and that goes a long way. Edited to add... I like Survivorman more. He seems to really have the knowledge locked in where Bear seems to be more produced.
