Does anyone know what brand it is? :D

Seriously, what's with the "Les Stroud's X item" threads lately? I can understand asking about knives or axes, but what he picked as a jacket or hat was probably a highly personalized choice, made from his experience of what fit him and what HE needed on a specific trip. It probably isn't the best or the most comfortable for you.

Just go to an outdoors store and try stuff out on yourself, then go on trips and see what you needed or did not need. That would work a lot better.

I posted asking what his jacket was because I had a suspicision after doing some research that I had the brand right but wasn't sure. I had never heard of the brand before and just want exposure to as much gear brands, types etc as possible. Plus I wanted to learn from you guys because someone will usually post something saying, "ya thats the brand, but I dont like them because...." or something like that

Where were you when they were asking about stuff from Jackass vs. Wild?

I thought he had velcro and not zippers? Real men use velcro. ;)

Though I mostly share your sentiments, I try to keep in mind that there really aren't any other outdoorsy programs around that would 'showcase' the kinds of gear that most of us are interested in. So when his show comes on and we get exposure to items we'd normally not ever see, our interest is piqued. Not really him, just new gear. Just a thought...

I know you are being sarcastic but for informational purposes only (lol) MEC (that means Mountain Equipment Co-op to our American friends) is one of his show's sponsors. They are mentioned in the credits and most of the gear/clothes he carries/wears is straight out of the MEC catalog. Look here
http://www.mec.ca/splash.jsp

I think its the same zipper thats on my fly...I will unzip it and post pics shortly...I will keep track of who checks my post..and blackmail you later:D

Maybe we can start a MEC group buy so we can all be like Les! :p

Seriously, +1 for MEC! MEC is like REI here. I've done some business with MEC, but being in the US, you need to weigh the exchange rate against the shipping costs to figure if you're getting a deal. MEC carries nice gear.

MEC rules.

I used to hit the store in Calgary about twice a year. Back in the '90s when the exchange rate was better their gear was an absolute steal. It's still a good source, online and catalogue sales aren't bad, but the selection and service available at the stores is top notch.

Anyone spending any time in any cities with an MEC store needs to stop by and join (it's a real co-op.)

Velcro gives away your position too easily. Deer and squirrels and the like, they all run the other way when they hear velcro.

Luckily manufacturers of hunting garments are figuring that out.

All good info...but the important question is, should I be circumcised or uncircumcised? Which is he?

I really had high hopes for finding out once I saw mention of the flys of pants.

I shop at MEC although they are anti-hunting. I just make it a point to talk enthusiastically about guns every time I step inside one.

I ask the staff questions like, "can you show me how I could attach a rifle to this backpack?" or "is it true that arc'teryx is a military contractor? Because I like to support military contractors when I can."

But they do have a lot of good gear at reasonable prices.

I've had mixed reception when mentioning hook and bullet activities there. Once in Calgary I was buying some X country gear and specifically mentioned that I would be using it to get a jump on spring bear. The sales guy was cool with that, but Alberta is about as conservative as Canada gets.

Just a couple years ago I was in Vancouver, coming back from Alaska and that salesguy was mortified when I asked about hunting opportunities on the island, the junkies from Pigeon Park would've gotten a nicer reception.

But in my experience REI is no better, the one in Tempe was notorious for frowning on anyone insufficiently granola.

You guys are great. Kind of requesting a "California Champagne" when in Paris!

just grow some velcro trees. then the animals will become acclimated to the sound.

... and what's the best blade grind and material to take care of the task if needed? Carbon/S30V/INFI? Scandi/convex/sabre? Hopefully you won't be getting into batoning :)

Aye, and that why the Scots have gone back to wearing kilts-- the sound of zippers was stampeding the sheep

Scissors on the SAK Classic should be more than big enough for the job

I like people to think I would need an Iltis Oxhead axe...but the truth is even the SAK Classic is too much. :(
