Les Voorhies knife

ill get a camera pic later.

heres what I think of it.

The ergonomics are REALLY superb. feels very great in the hands. It says IKBS on one of its sides. Which means bearings inside (i think). It is EXTREMELY smooooth. The flipper requires some strength to press, which is great since it means it wont open up randomly. and onces you press the flipper down, the blade just flies out, finishing with a satifying click. the blade is pretty sharp, but not as sharp as Id like. The blade is a bit off centered, but the blade doesnt scratch anything, so everything is fine. I might take it apart later. anyone know of any ways to take apart a IKBS knife? the pivots are hidden behind the scales, which is great!!

Not so sure taking it apart is a good idea as instead of having a $400 knife for $150 you may end up with unassembled parts worth much less than $150. ;)
I would borrow a camera and post or send some photos to Les to determine that it's authentic.

will do guys. my mom is currently back in China. and she took our camera.

but i will use my dad's cell to post them tonight or tomorrow.

and you guys are right, I wont send him money until I am sure its authentic.

thanks BF,friends

As I alluded to before, there used to be one person around here (BF) who sold a lot of knives at great prices until it became widely known that what was being sold was in fact stolen. I almost ended up with one of those myself, but just before I pulled the trigger, I learned about what was going on and did not buy the knife in question, despite it being a tremendous deal. Like many others here, I have no desire to possess a stolen knife (even if I could get it very cheap), unless of course I had a way to return it to its rightful owner.

Hopefully, the knife you have is neither stolen nor a fake.

To elaberate on the difference between CMP154cm and 154cm, from what I understand CPM steel is from cricible steel and it means its powdered metal thats bonded together or somethgin similer to that, thererfore the pores of the metak are finer and more even making it a slightly better steel, a higher quality...What makes up 154cm would be the same for both, the difference is how its put together...google crucible steel to check out their website..They have good info on there!

EDIT: here is the link, check that out...

http://www.crucibleservice.com/products/cutlery.cfm

Here is a quote from their site...

"The CPM process begins with the production of fine particles of steel by gas atomization of a prealloyed melt. In the atomizer, the molten metal is poured through a small nozzle where high pressure gas turns the liquid stream into a fine spray of tiny spherical droplets. These liquid droplets rapidly solidify into tiny powder particles which are spherical in shape and uniform in chemical composition. The atomized powder is collected and loaded into steel cans which are then hermetically sealed (i.e. evacuated and welded shut). The filled cans are exposed to sufficient temperature and pressure to consolidate the powder inside to 100% dense steel. The fully dense compacts then undergo normal mill processing to finished bar. The CPM process results in very fine-grained steel which has a homogeneous composition and an extremely uniform microstructure. In the higher carbon CPM grades, the carbides which precipitate during solidification are extremely fine and remain so throughout mill processing and in the finished bar. "

sorry guys! I currently dont have a camera with me (my mom brought it away, she will be home on the 26th). so I used my dad's webcam to make a vid, but you cant play it without it (zeca), so it came out like this.

I will go work on better pictures!

Hello, i just stumbled across this thread. If this knife is the same as the one pictured in the thread posted above: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=508826 then it is my work.

There is some mystery going around about this knife and i think it is the same one that is now owned by someone in Sweden. Some one from Canada e-mailed me a while back and ask a lot of questions about this knife, said they bought it used but didnt remember who they had bought it from. They said the blade was off center and wanted to know how to fix it, he wanted to take it apart, i advised him that the blade should not be off center and to send it to me for repair, i advised him not to take it apart and that i thought the blade might be loose. He said he couldnt afford to send it back and would take it apart and try to fix it himself. Then a couple week's later i got an e-mail from a guy in Sweden saying he liked the knife but the blade was off center and the blade seemed loose and also he thinks it may be missing a ball. After communicating with him i found out that he bought it from a guy in Canada, He is now trying to decide if he can afford to send it back to me and what problems he might have with customs tring to tax him on it.

I'd like to say a few things about this situation. i hate hearing that a knife i made has a problem, it's embarrassing. But I will stand behind my work and make the situation right even if i have to make a new knife, that's partly why you pay the big buck for them but the knife needs to be sent back to me, it does not do anyone any good to say there is a problem and then not return it to be fixed. I suspect that the problem with this knife was that the pivot screw loosened, a very simple problem to fix but it should be done by me or someone who really knows knives (and IKBS in this situation). Now some poor guy over in Sweden is stuck with it and has to decide if he should spend the big buck to send it insured or risk priority mail.

The lesson to be learned here? Well first off, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If the person who bought the knife for $250 had just sent the knife back to me he would have had a $425 knife for under $300, but now the problem has been passed on to someone else and it will cost that person even more. BlazenGem, if you are not the person who sold it to the guy in Sweden or i have the story all wrong then i apologize for possibly inferring that it was.

Nuf said.
