So, for christmas I got a SOG SOGfari 13" version.
When I opened it i was amazed at how sharp it was so I couldnt wait to go test it out. Me and my friend set out into the woods, and it was cutting amazingly well. I finally found a decent sized austrailian pine (about 4" in diameter if even that, that my cheap Corona machetes cut through no problem.) So i started cutting it and again was amazed at the sharpnedd then i saw something round and metal looking. I reached down to see if my machete was still sharp and there was Two chunks missing out of the blade. Not chips, but CHUNKS. I was very dissapointed, i really liked this machete. I might go get a Gerber Gator machete/

Childish names & cheap steel,as well as peppering their logo into the knives,i dont like the direction they are going :barf:

Well I don't know weather it was a bad heat treat or if it's just because the blade is so narrow but it did happen. I got it as a Christmas present from Dicks sporting goods, and returning it to there instead of mailing it to sog and all that bs.

I think that thing sells for like twenty bucks? what do you expect? I do agree its a shame that SOG puts their name on it. Just got a Bluto, which i love! Wont be getting many more SOGs though!!

If you're looking into other machetes, I've had an Ontario for a while with no problems.

Sorry about the SOG

Yeah, it is 20$ but I also have a corona machete, around 15$ at the most and it's lasted about 6 years, even sat outside for a good 2 months and still going strong. If you guys saw the size of the tree I was chopping when it broke, you'd understand.

Well based on my experience much better haha. I'm not really fond of cold steel but I've only owned one myself but have handled quite a few, but that's personal prefernce I guess :).

I wouldn't expect it to match a $60 ESEE, but I'd expect it to last longer than a $8 hardware store machete and not lose quarter size chips on pine. It probably wouldn't be worth the hassle and expense to ship it back to SOG at that price but I'm sure he's still disappointed.

Hah yeah I just expected a little more than that out of the machete, I mean all the dog I've owned has been pretty good. The only one I didn't like was the flash, it just felt cheap but I was like amazed that this even happened. And no I'm not even gonna bother shipping it back to sog, If the store doesn't replace it, I'll go and buy either another corona or a junglas or something. I mean I have a 20$ glock knife and that things been to hell and back, I've been trying to kill that damn thing for a couple years now. So price isn't always quality.
