I've been riding for 40 years this year. I've never owned a 4 wheel vehicle for personal transportation (I owned a few trucks for my construction business, long sold now). My life's philosophy is- If I can't go there on my bike, I don't go.

I've been riding a Honda Shadow Sabre 1100, which I bought brand new in 2003, for the past 23 years. I liked that model so much that I bought a second one (new, 2005) in 2006.

The 2003 has been my daily rider. Here's basically what it looks like now (a few small changes since this pic was taken). Lots of changes over the years. It's a long way from stock.

Here's what it looked like about a decade ago when I was going through a "minimalist" phase. I stripped the bike down, removing almost everything that wasn't absolutely necessary to ride.

Living life exclusively on motorcycles poses some challenges. Like bringing wheels and tires to the shop for tire changes. It's a lot cheaper than giving the shop the entire bike, and I don't like anyone touching my bike anymore than is absolutely necessary. So I built a special rack just for tire changes. I call this my "flat bed", and it attaches to both bikes, so when one bike needs a tire change, I use the other bike to transport the wheel and tire.

Here's what that looks like (rack on my 2003)-

A few pics of the rack, attached to my 2005. It ain't fancy, but it's strong and functional. And it's served me well for many years. I only attach it to a bike when it's time for a tire change, or if I need to carry something really big.

This is the only pic I have of both bikes.
