Let me see your gunstocks + a gunstock review

I've been on the hunt for the Rigid / Canal Street gunstock for a good long while. It seems like I always miss them on the big auction site. The shield on the Rigid, with the slanted bolsters, is really classy!:thumbup:

Dang Bigfattyt, that's just drool-worthy awesome! :eek::eek:

Believe it, or not, the Rigid is the better of the two. Even though CS built it, they really built it right. F&F is better, dye for the bone is better, the rigid has satin finish-better imo.
As you can see I love the #40 QCC pattern. I like this pattern better than any case gunstock, and even the 76. Now 76 quality in a pattern like QCC'S #40, I'd be bankrupt. By the way, the CS gunstock is basically identical to the QCC. Of all the QCC's, the old Dave Shirley Northwoods are best. Blades are thinner behind the edge. Flush backsprings, blade centering, etc. The old Northwoods were put together as well as any GEC. Someone took their time on them.

I love my gunstocks! These are the ones I've managed to hang on to, with the Queen at top in D-2 tool steel an often carried knife.

Are those Kabars a QCC #40 variant? Very nice collection Barry. Is the stag in the bottom right a QCC sfo as well, I like that shield?

Excellent collection. Who makes those three in the top left with the distinctive shield and slanted bolsters?

Those are QCC #40 patterns. Barry, correct me if I'm wrong,b UT I think those are under the Schatt & Morgan umbrella-Keystone series??

Correct, they are S&M's from the days when Bill Howard worked at Queen. The stag on the lower right is a Bulldog brand, also by Queen I believe. I don't know who made the Kabars, but I suspect Queen as well. They are from '82, if memory serves.

Ah, interesting. The frames sure looked like a #40 but the shield + bolsters + blades threw me off, I don't think I've seen those before.

Barry, what's the one on the top row all the way to the left? Looks like a gunstock in a Barlow pattern.

Bob, that is one of Esynx's very first customs, like maybe number three. It's a Gunstock Barlow with redwood burl covers and bronze bolster. He also made the little baby blue barlow for me from a Tidioute 22 blade (I added the bail); pretty sweet lil' knife mod!

I only have a couple.

One by Ron Newton that is kinda fancy.

I really like the shape of this one, it looks like it'd be super comfortable in the hand.

Also, a little update on the Queen: I've been carrying it everyday this last week and decided to grind down the kick on the pen blade a little bit so that it doesn't protrude quite so much and also gently radiused the run up, the result is that the hot spot I mentioned in my first post is almost completely gone. About five minutes with a coarse DMT plate and I think it's significantly more comfortable in the hand now.

Interesting, don't see many gunstocks without clip points. Nice one

That is pretty much my grail knife. Really impressive, I love how exaggerated the motifs typical of the gunstock pattern are, and the micarta is just beautiful. I'm very jealous
Thanks. It is my only custom that was made to my request. Size, materials, long pull, blade configuration, etc.

to all u gunstock hoarders..imlooking to add a gunstock in the edc rotation....i relly like the schatt and morgan style, but would prefer 1095 carbon.......any recomendations?

Love them..but will wait for a custom order by a maker to come along and make my own single bladed version. Can't ever find the Outlaw I'm looking for by GEC. Love the angles though as I do the Eureka Jack.

I posted this at the end of August and have since acquired just what I was posting. The first custom and gunstock that really caught my eye when I first came on to the porch. When a chance arose to own this particular one I jumped on it. A bent gunstock pattern by TBose and executed wonderfully by Rick. Love how the swedge is ground into that full height hollow grind.

I am unfamiliar with gunstock shape, so does this count?

Just google 'gunstock slipjoint' or 'gunstock knife'. They have a very distinctive shape and angular curvature to mimic the quite literally..a gunstock. An Opinel is not a gunstock.

Steeltwnwv-I favor the Queen/Schatt & Morgan pattern as well, unfortunately I've only found them in D2 and Stainless. If you want 1095 in that style/size of a gunstock, you could ask the distributors to have an sfo or you'd have to go custom. I recall a sheepsfoot barlow sfo short run done in 1095 recently, so it can be done in QCC's #40 pattern.
