No pics, but this is what I've been using:

SDS Nessmuk
No-name hatchet of Swedish origin
Vic Spirit

It's funny how the hatchet and multi have stayed the same for years, but the fixed blade keeps changing.

My appologies to our older members.:)

When I am feeling "Old School" I take out my retro 1960's set.(I was born in 1969 so its "old" to me.:o )

To be honest, for me the fixed blade is for fun. I don't see anything I CAN'T do with a hatchet and a folder. I think that's why your fixed changes too. I could be wrong though.

I rotate a lot. I keep my F-back Nessie and ATAX in my pack. These are what I have wearing a lot recently..

Yep, I think you're right. Hatchets are mere tools to me and don't have the allure of other edged goodies, and the multitool has proven its worth time and time again. The fixed blade is icing on the cake.

I've always wondered about the axe, do you guys really carry an axe into the woods. In all my years of outdoors I've never met a person on foot carrying an axe. In the car no problem (have one myself), but hiking??

I live on the country side and have a bunch of big ones to split the fire wood but they've never left the property. If I want to start a fire I collect sticks, and I do that often on account of our weekly braais (local barbecue). I live in a dry climate and maybe up north it is more difficult but the fascination with heavy hardware (also goes for sharpened prybars) still baffles me.

On the knive side that koster bushcrafter seems to be popular (great one, love it) in this thread. I can't put any nessie pics in it because I don't own any although last week I got an email that a nessie I ordered is almost ready, took me by surprise because I had forgotten about it, the order went out about two years ago and hadn't heard from the maker since sending the email. Thought it got lost, how well according to the pics on his site it will be a beauty. Will post a review here when I finally have it.

A lot of people refer to a hatchet as an axe.
I don't think anyone is carrying a full size felling axe.

And you might be surprised at how small those "Nessmuk" axes are.

If I'm out for a hike I don't bring an axe.... inf I'm bush bumming I do (or some equivalent) as I might opt for an activity that involves me processing wood.

Not as nice as most, but it will do for now.
