I will admit that I primarily drop by here to gaze with some envy and intrigue at the knifes in this forum. With that admittance out of the way I would like to encourage a little bit of show n' tell; what are your favorites, how did you end up with them, why are you so fond of them?

I will do the only appropriate thing and start the showing and telling.

I'll start with the one of the two Great Eastern knives I own. This was a gift from my wife but there is more to the story than it just something I was able to unwrap. When we last visited the biggest knife store in the world (not sure if approved vendor) I was perusing the limited great eastern selection there and came across this particular knife. Now we don't have an abundance of money and as such I was torn between even thinking about buying it. I finally decided that I should probably not and so went to my wife (the far more fiscally conservative of the two of us) and told her to talk me out of it. She tool one look, paused a moment, and said "You should buy it" when asked if she was sure she stated that if I didn't she would and give it to me in a month for my birthday so I could "have it now, or have to wait on it..." Of course I bought it immediately and was reminded once again how awesome my wife is.

TL DR:

My wife is awesome and encourages my knife habits.

These are some of my favorite GECs. 1st is a burnt grizzly cut bone #54 big jack, my first ever GEC, and still might be my favorite bone of theirs.

These next three have the best looking covers to my eye, beautifully matched and lots of character.
A red stag #72, a bark ram's horn #53, and a primitive bone #23.

This one is special because my wife bought it for me for my birthday (with Mike's help at Collectorknives picking out a gnarly one!).

some of mine

hmm i dont have a picture of the knives that started it all for me. the favorite by far is the 48 single blade big clips

Favorite clip blade traditional lock back and slip joint together...

The 112 is like a return to what I started with a 110 but I prefer the smaller size and the Queen Cattle Knife is a Christmas present from my wife on my favorite pattern I thought I would miss out on due to only 50 of them being made! Fortunately my friend Bill knew I would get one so he hung onto one for me!

Hmmm, favorites. That's a tough question. I have so many favorites. I guess these would be my top five.

Ken Coats Sheepsfoot Jack. I like this knife because it's built like a tank and it has served me well on countless occasions. A very dependable knife.

Case/Bose Norfolk. I have a strange history with this pattern. This is the fourth one that I've owned. I adore the pattern but I kept selling them to purchase other knives. I'm finally confident that this one will not be sold. Just an awesome knife in so many ways.

Mike Alsdorf Gunstock Interframe with Mother of Pearl inlays. I spoke to Mike on the phone when placing an order for a different pattern. He told me that he had this knife available and he did his best to describe it to me. On the phone it didn't sound like something I would want. A couple months later I met Mike at the Gateway Area Knife Show in St. Louis and he still had this knife. As soon as I slid it out of the sleeve I knew right away that it was mine. A couple of other Bladeforum members accompanied me on the trip to St Louis so it has those memories attached to it as well.

Remington R100A. This one is special to me because I think the bone looks fantastic. The blades sharpen up real nice too.

Case/Bose Cattle knife. My newest acquisition. Very well made and the only three blade knife I've ever owned with all the nail nicks on the mark side. Half stops all around which is a big plus for me as well. This one screams "work knife".

These two are among my favorites.
The capabilities, ergonomics and looks of these two place them near the top of "My Favorite Traditionals" list.:D

I've been trying to hone my photography skills combined with basic Adobe Photoshop adjustments. Here's one I did today that I think turned out pretty well. The knife is a 2014 Tuna Valley Scout with Burnt Stag.

A #38 whittler in stag, released on the day my son was born.

Here are some of my Queen/S&M faves.

Queen #06L teardrop linerlock 1-blade. This was my sole EDC for a number of years. Great knife.

File & Wire #042129 English jack 2-blade. Big spear was modified to a Wharncliffe by mastersmith Don Hanson III.

S&M #043109 stockman 3-blade. Great size, great bone, great stainless.

Pretty much everything I own is a favorite in one way or another now that I have sold off all but my users.

81 - Wife bought this one 2 birthdays ago. I sold it to a friend (Rockon75) only to have it returned to me as gift.

73 - These all were produced on the day my wife and I started dating.

While I love the Arno Bernards, the 48 in the center was given to by my wife. She bought it for me after a great night of married fun. He asked.:D

Farmer - A gift from Paul. How did I go this long without this knife.

66 - Serialized # 2 for my daughter's birthdate.

85 - Serialized #4 for my daughter's birthdate.

72 Red Stag & 73 Serialized #10 - 72 has the closest production date to my wedding and is just a gorgeous knife that will earn a patina. The 73 natural stag serialized #10 for wedding date. It is my most carried so far. The 73 is my favorite pattern.

Lon Humphrey Whitetail - Favorite pocketable fixed blade.

Favorite Worry Stone - A great pattern as well. I hope to see an all steel clip barlow on the 77 frame soon. Hint hint Mike.

Favorite backyard tool. HI Khukiri - Just an awesome piece of steel and fun to use.

Buck Elk scaled stockmen. Either Model 301, 303 or 309's. Elk scaled models offer many different faces. Some grooved and popcorned and some smoother and more uniform. I guess I just have to say I like them in the end for no reason at all. 300

1988, 425m steel

These are my favorites of my Frank Buster Fight'n Roosters made by Olbertz in Solingen, Germany.

Black Widow prototype stockman, 1978

Love the bone on that one, looks great!

This is a new favorite for me, a GEC #15 Farm Boy I bought a few weeks ago. I've carried it every day since. Love the combination of the clip and spey blades, the size, and the simple, rustic look of the thing. Fit and finish are great.

These are great, some seriously good looking knives. Ill toss another favorite out there to try and keep it going.

No special story on this one aside from it was my first Great Eastern and sold me on the company from that day forward.

Here's a small collection of Hiroaki Ohta's knives that I'll never split up. Gary Graley surprised me with the box. I bought his Le Thiers and he shipped it in this great little box. Just perfect for these four. It's fun to pick one from there and drop it in my pocket for the day.

edited to add: Hiroaki's knives are a fine example of the cutler's art. Fit and finish, mechanics and aesthetics are all excellent. It's a real pleasure to be able to carry and use these precision tools. The rat tail bolster and bar shield are present on many of his knives.
