My first 2 Beckers, both 11s. So on my lunch break looks like I get to start the etching of the ingravings. Not sure whether to try pc echant or the salt. water/electricity method.

Be careful. .. The Becker fever is soon to follow. I just got my first Becker a few days ago.

Soon to follow... no no no im already in stage 5. The first 2 11s arrived, I am also expecting a set of scales for one of them and 2 bk2s in shipment.

It happens quick... haha!
Man I'm ready to get a 2... and a 9 but my funds say otherwise lol

Well I did a relatively quick lunch break project. I etched in the logos deeper using the saltwater and electricity method. Here are the 2 rigs I used but will be working on a much more finished and device for the next units.

For the DC side I used an old manual 12V battery charger.

For the AC side I used a small 120/24V transformer and a couple test leads. The transformer does also have a center tap which puts out ~13V but I used the full voltage.

Now the etching is nice and deep, and I'm on to jimping and stripping. Debating on filing or electro etching the jimping.

Well the chemical I tried to strip the coating didnt touch it. So that will have to wait for me to get a better stripper. I did manage to find my needle files so jimping is on the agenda for poo unch break tomorrow.

GRATS on the blades! ...and on the ones to come as well. Love to see a becker owner start the process of making it their own personal knife as soon as they get it. I think customizing your Becker is half of what makes them so amazing....the other half being the quality, design, etc. looking forward to seeing your finished products.

Gonna look awesome! Be sure to post some pics man! I gotta hone my skills more before customizing my Becker lol

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. The quality of Beckers is one thing that drew me to them. The other was the customization aspect, I think its great that modification and customization is an understood partn of the process. It is refreshing to see a designer that appreciates and encourages modifying his designs.

(So if you happen to read thos thread Ethan, thank you for your understanding the perfect design for one person is not quite perfect front next. You are an asset to this community, and your knives are awesome works of art.)

Ok rant over now, I'll put the soap box away now.

I'll post more pics as I get the jimping under way,or when I get the coating stripped. Its kind of hard to see the depth of the etching with the coating still on.

Well the jimping is done. The work was done with a needle file, it moved along quite quickly. I think it came out pretty good. The spaceing isnt perfect but it feels really good to the finger/hand.

Coming along nicely! Think i need to go ahead n pull the trigger on a 15 so I can customize another one :)

Well I failed to get any pics of the 11 while in the stripper. Needless to say the coating bubbled up and pealed off.

Brushed it up a little bit with with some steelwool. Then gave it a bath in hot apple cider vinager.

It came out with a nice dark charcoal grey patina.

I cleaned itn up a touch with the steelwool neutralized it with a baking soda slurry and toothbrush. Then reassembled and ready for duty.

Next step I plan to make a scout carry sheath and possibly a lanyard.

You are very welcome and they are absolutely true. Thank you for the wonderful knives, the design and final product make for a great knife out of the box, and a great place to start personalizing.
