Lets compare Grinder Prices!

I bought my 1 1/2 HP non variable Bader from POP. It costs about $1350 today for a standard package...grinder, 2 X 8 wheel, fork tip with one 1/2 - 2 wheel, two drive pulleys, and platen, workrest, slack belt set-up. When I do it again I'll buy variable. I couldn't be more pleased with performance.

(yes, I am curious too)

Can you count the ones at work?

I wish I had enough room for one, never mind afford one.

My grinder:

Harborfreight 4x36" with a 6" disc. Cast Iron body.
$89.00 and no shipping and handling.

Got my Bader III single speed 110V at the ECCKS last year and it was just $1095. with 8" wheel, arm, a smaller 1/2" wheel (I believe), work rest and platen. I bought an additional rest, a 12" wheel and a bunch of belts, they through some more in for free. I also bought an assortment of smaller wheels and attachments. After all that it cost about $1275. and I borrowed their dolly and dragged it home on the subway from Manhattan to Brooklyn. I also use a Delta 1" X 32" ,about $90. and a Delta 4 X 36" w/disc grider, about $140. . The disc grinder almost never sees any use. I plan on buying a variable speed model in the near future an aditional cost of about $1500. ! This thing of ours.....it ain't cheap. :D RDT

Hey, I thought I'd post what Richard Williams, the blacksmith/bladesmith at Dollywood uses to grind his knives...

1) Files ~$20

2) Sandpaper ~$5

Some of his knives sell for >$1000.

Just goes to show that we don't *really* need all of the fancy equipment! :)

No disrespect intended to Richard Williams, but what I think it really shows, is that some tourists have more money than brains.;) :D
