Lets design a survival vest!

I'm really liking my RIBZ along with a buttpack or small backpack. The RIBZ are your possibles pouches and are put on first. You can wear any size pack over them. Kind of like a vest but you can drop your pack, leaving only the RIBZ on with your possibles up front at hand.

Over the years I've been fiddling around with this idea.
Finally came up with what I call a Pest (Not a pack, not a vest; ergo Pest).

True North has been make their version of it with some success...
A bit SAR-centric, but have heard of hunter and hikers using it too.

One bit of kit I've found very useful is 50' of 1" tubular webbing with a steel carabiner on the running end for throwing up and around stuff. Coupled with my riggers belt it allows for some 45' of rappelling or ascending, as well as other multi-function uses (shelter building, tag-line, rigging, patient packaging, etc.).

Just my $.02...

Cheers,

This is an Arktis Civil Air Patrol Vest that I picked up a while back. I haven't used it much yet, but seems to be well thought out. I'll try to get some on-body pics later..

I like the lay out of this one (just add hydration bladder as pictured) and can be found on ebay for $60

I know I'm bringing this back from the dead but I didn't want to start a whole new thread.
This is something I pieced together through horse trades and bits of gear I've collected over the years

I remembered this thread, around the time I was looking into vests, I thought a NG resurrected it. Good idea to add yours too it.

Looks kinda like mtwardens vest above but with a lot more pouches. Whats the weight on yours when its loaded with your essentials? Looks like it would be wide around the waist, ever snag it on trees and the like? Seems bulky and cumbersome. Cool idea. I personally like mtwardens, seems slimmer, although very similar, could just be the way the pics were taken.

I have been leaning toward vests to get away from my current back pack. Thanks for posting,
keeps the wheels turning, so maybe I can find a solution for my carry needs.

no idea what the actual weight is, its comfortable to wear. The way it's set up right it replaces a day pack. I could very comfortably do a weekend (in my AO) out of this vest. It's a fully adjustable vest so where it rides is up to whoever has it on, I have it set up to ride mid torso right now which I'm liking well enough.

I don't think most people would find this set up comfotable, but I've spent so much time with equipment vests on it's natural to me
