Let's do something nice for a fellow forumite and friend.

Dont know how I missed this, congrats Karda you certainly earned every inch of that amazing blade. This community here at HI is one of the finest I have seen. Good on ya guys.

Heres the actual DOTD thread pics from when i bought the Bura SMAK back on 12-17-2008 during one of Aunties special Christmas sales.
The carving on this one is is more floral loops and swirls, sort of abstract compared to the direct leafiness of the one above.
Oddly enough i also saved a screenshot of the actual DOTD for recordkeeping, apparently....
As you can see things havent changed much in the last 5 years. Auntie is still giving us much the same fantastic deals on awesome knives as she was back then. Especially at Christmastime. Really all the credit for all of this goes to her. I may have to put up with some things here on the forum, but it it just a very small part, i can guarantee you, of what she has to go thru, do and get done each and every day and twice on sundays.
I love the fact that you all think i'm worthy of a fine gift such as this, especially when both my Amigos and co-mods chip in, but she makes this all possible, without her tireless hard work and tenacity we wouldnt have the blessing of these fine khukuri, fine friends and a fine place to hang out where we don't feel funny when we talk about our favorite bent shiny things. It hasnt been an easy road for Auntie to keep this going the last few years. With the economy such as it is and the prices of materials, fuel and just about everything ....right down to shipping costs going up thru the roof, it has been quite a bit of work to juggle costs and then theres all the massive hard work she puts in with getting everything checked and posted, questions answered....and sold...and shipped...and then getting the shops their money and dealing with that end of the bargain. Not to ramble here, but i just wanted to put in perspective of how little i do around here in comparison to that wonderful Sherpa lady we all hold our breath waiting on, for that hopeful email of "it's yours!".....
I just do what i can to be of any assistance that i can to a cause, forum and company that i feel is a blessing to this world. I am honored to actually be a part of all of this and hope to live up to to the legacy that Uncle Bill left us. To honor him, his legacy and this company with hopefully a small and honorable one of my own.
It would be my wish that this gifted khukuri will be a sign of a very productive year for the factories and that we will have plenty of nice sales with new friends joining us... Keeping the cupboards and computer shack bare and the forges pounding is the name of the game. You all help us immensely with your purchases and donations to our cause. It it very much appreciated!

Thank you all again for honoring me with such a priceless gift!

That's a beautiful knife too Karda. Will make a truly awesome pair with the new one. I think when they aren't chopping they deserve a nice display case.

Truth in my opinion is they both are almost to pretty to use, but perfect for fondling and appreciating.

I say we score you a Ugly Villager so you don't have to mark these up.

This thread makes me happy. Good karma.

I will ship the silver mounted AK to karda this week. Thank you all for your great gift and suppports to Karda and Kamis

I received the SMAK today, along with a couple of things that need a little work.
I have been thinking for a little while that Rajkumars workmanship was on par with that of Master Kami Buras...... This piece confirms that for me. The fit and finish on this on is as well done as the old master kami's. I would have never have believed that i would find another SMAK that fit my hand like it was made for it. Not just made for it.....but fitted for it.....
Aside from the handles and keepers being a bit different in pattern and the Bura being a bit thicker spined and more heavily built, the layout and execution of these two knives is nearly absolutely and almost uncannily identical.
I've always loved the Ang khola model, but the extra grippiness of these carved handles makes them feel as though they are almost stuck to your hand. The real silver mountings just add icing to the cake. Anyone on the fence about these should try at least one. Where else but HI are you going to find a knife like this at such a price. Even at full price, IMHO, these things are a heckuva deal.

Again.... Thank You my friends, for such a wonderful and nice addition to my collection!

I'm glad it fits you well, Karda:) I've always looked at those silver mounted AKs as a Gentleman's Monster Hunting knife;) You've got your big beheading blade, your spiritual blessings over the steel, and a bit of silver to back it all up.

And I totally agree regarding Rajkumar. He's simply masterful. I don't know if I've personally seen his equal. To be honest, while I see a lot of skill and mastery in Bura's work, it never really clicked with me. I was always an old-school Kumar fan. Tirtha came along and makes a very Kumar-ish edge. My bowie by him is a spirit blade that I'll never give up. However, Rajkumar's work just oozes divine talent. The man has a skill with fire and steel that I just think can't be taught. He was born to swing a hammer and produce heirloom quality blades. I earnestly think my grandkids will dig through my old stuff when I'm dust and marvel at what a little guy on a dirt floor can do with some metal and some basic tools can do with a hot fire.

I've seen a lot of stuff by HI over the years, and I have been impressed many, many times over. However, I've never been so floored as I have with Rajkumar's work.
