Let's get small

I like smaller fixed blades, but all these quarter sized knives are just tiny  I may have to get some to try them out, now.

Going small is a fun way to experiment with how much you don't need. Kind of like ultra light backpacking, or using ultra light fishing tackle to land a tarpon. Or Boar hunting with a handgun for up close game. My backpacking from years ago bled over into my edc life, and it was amazing how light your pockets can get, yet still deal with life's little problems. I love taking out my tiny Victorinox classic to do some large cutting job, and people amazed at how the tiny sharp blade when right through 1/2 inch nylon or polypro rope. Or opening a large family size can of something with a P-38 out of your wallet. Or riding the whole length of the Blue Ridge Parkway on a Vespa motor scooter. Kind of like the reverse of one- upmenship. One-downmenship is playing with peoples minds. Or opening them to other possibilities.

Carl.

These are most of my knives with blades that come in under 3":

My Orange H-1 Ladybug goes with me pretty much everywhere (keep it on my keys). Incredible utility in a tiny package.

I also have a kiridashi made by Adam Richie (Koi Knife Works) that is AWESOME, and was very inexpensive for a custom in 01. I'm loving Kiridashis lately for small knives.

Here are a few of my favourite small folders...

Vic Rambler, Spyderco Grasshopper, Spyderco Kiwi 3, Spyderco Dragonfly 2

You just struck a chord. I've been hot on folders for the last ten months, and suddenly I bought two very nice fixed blade drop-point custom hunters within about twelve hours. Not ANOTHER sickness...please.

Hey Gooeytek, what is the damascus one on the bottom right?

One of my clients gave that to me along with another damascus folder after he saw that I carried a knife in my back pocket. He doesn't recall the details of the knife exactly but it came with a vinyl sheath. It's very sharp though, and quite thick. I think it might be one of those unknown-steel Pakistani knives? I really don't know.

These are a pair of David Mosier customs. I live in Okinawa, which has some really strict length laws, so these work great for me. The top one was mine, my wife liked it so much I had one made for her. They're basically cut down versions of his Spektor model, blade length 2.5".

And here's some better lighting:

Sorry if its been asked but what are these
Smallweb.jpg

Middle one you circled is a Hide Away. I've read some negative things about the company on a forum here, that there are some shady practices. This one is their utility model, 440C, I had to work to get a decent edge on it. The lower middle one is from Mission Critical Tools. Neat little tool but I have a hard time getting an edge on it. The lower right one is a TOPS Bartender Defender. More bottle opener than knife.

Thank you very much. I really like the Bartender defender. Do you use it that much? What is it good for? (Sorry for all the questions)

Mine aren't quite that small but they are still tiny :D The slip joint on top has a 1" blade and 1.25" handle. The stiletto (not auto unfortunately :/) has a 1.25" blade and 1.5" handle, 1.625 if you include the little lanyard loop lol. It also says INOX on the blade (upside down in the pic, silly me). Never looked it up but information would be cool if anyone has it. I found both of these on separate days in my local walmart parking lot haha. Also, my phone sucks at macro sorry for that.

+1 On the BHK patch. It is a sweet little knife I carry everywhere with me. The handle is a touch small for my hands, but the blade is superb to use.

I don't use it a lot, I carry it on occasion. For opening bottles, I often use my Bottle Fly.
