I have about $200.00 saved in order to buy a fixed blade for edc purposes. Less than 4 oz., optimally, but I will be flexible here. Three inch blade, more or less. Uses you ask? Well, why do we carry a edc knife to begin with? We want to be prepared for the unexpected, as well as, as much of anything else possible, like Boy Scouts. [emoji6] I don't need it for blue collar employment purposes. I'm a semi-retired professional who spends time in the city, suburbia, and the great outdoors. I also want an optimal steel. I love 1095 steel, but I want something else for this knife. I really like s35vn for its versatility, but I'm open to all suggestions here. I do want to be able to sharpen it myself though. I plan on carrying it scout style, but it would be nice, though not a requirement , if I could neck carry it too. I love window shopping all the suggested possibilities. I'm going to purchase something that is recommended in this thread for sure, because initially here my list of possibles is a blank slate. So what would you choose considering my loose requirements?

my only 2 fixed blades under 3" are the Esee Izula II and Esee Candiru both in 1095, I like the Izula more, yeah with your budget Id go for Bark River Bravo or LT Wright

Here are some that fit the bill with the more "exotic" steels:

BladeHQ has the fiddleback forge hiking buddy for right at your budget right now.
s35vn, 3", 4 oz. Hits every button.

KaBar Snody Boss is another one, under 3 oz... The sheath will leave you wanting, but for the price. (Currently $103 at bladeHQ), it leaves plenty of spending money left over for a custom sheath to your exact liking... End of the day, you wind up with everything exactly how you want; blade size, steel, weight, and carry options.

I would suggest the Fiddleback Forge Hiking Buddy from their production line or a White River Knives Caper. Both appear to fit the bill!

I'm really liking these suggestions so far, and I'm starting the widow shopping using these suggestions. Starting with the Fiddleback Forge and Bark River.

Dpx gear. They use niolox, d2, sleipner as well as 1095. All are solid steels with good edge holding. I like my assault II in niolox. Love the pry on the end

I can vouch for the Bradford G3. There are a coupe of different sheaths available for it so your different carry styles should work with it. I'll also say that Bark River has some great offerings in your size range. My fav though, even though it's a few dollars over your $200 mark, would be a Dozier Personal Utility or an Arkansas Traveler (if you can find one). The Doziers are my fav small FBs, with BRKT and Bradford neck and neck for second place.

Not sure where they're at in production, but the Evans Knife and Tool Companion seems like it would fit the bill.

Bark River PSK Elmax.
Checkout the Knifemakers forum for fixed blades some really nice customs in that price range.

I'm really liking the Bark River Adventurer In CPM 20CV. At 62-63 Rockwell, is this gonna cause any brittleness issues that should make me leery of using it for light camp wood processing chores?
