I just got this yesterday at the Lewisburg PA knife show, it's a stout folder!
And both blades are nicely ground to quite a thin edge too!

It's a Case 6231 1/2, a Case XX 6 dot code, which I am lead to understand
that it was made back in 1974, back while I was in the Navy :)

Wanted to give this folder it's own thread, here are some quicky photos;

Very nice size and the main blade is working in pretty good now,
both blades took an exceptional edge.

So, lets see which one you guys/gals have in your collection and what you
think of this, to me, a very traditional style jack knife!

Wish I coulda been there with you, Gary! I like PA knife shows!!
Easton, Titusville, you name it! Looks like you and Fran had some good luck!

Here's a pic of a Greenbone ancestor to your knife. A 31 1/2 is indeed an all time great pattern by Case!! Nice substantial Jack!!

Nice, some slight differences there in the blade profiles, like your pointed
pen blade and the swedge on the main looks good too :)
Thanks and yes, would have been good to have you down for the show!

For some while I thought the pen had some wear, to get that shape. But now that I've seen a lot more Case knives, I'm sure they made them that "pointed" way!
The jigging on your knife is great Gary, with very little smoothed off near the bolsters. The old way - - - - as it should be!!

Nice knives. The bone on that 70's is tops. A nice wide clip to last forever too.
Note the different swedges on the clips. Charlie's is definately old school.

A great pattern that doesn't seem to get as much attention as they should IMHO....

Watch, after this thread, the prices will start going up :D

Well, that pattern was discontinued so it's not so easy to find them, maybe on the bay'
but it is similar to a barlow without the barlow large bolster.

I had a GEC wharncliff, beautiful knife, but found the length of the handle was just a bit
too short for me to use handily, this one is about right and yes the wide thin blade
should keep cutting a good long time!

Gary, do IRC that the handle on that pattern is just a touch over 3 1/2 inches ?

It's really something to think about how much work has been done by the plain old barlow in America over the past 150 years or so. Simple, solid, effective, timeless ...

Nope, that one was right at 3" closed, just a bit too short for my tastes
plus it was thick which made it almost ok, but just not quite.
Where this one is about right ;)

And yep Mnblade, a lot of good things in that package, used for a long long time!

By George, I'd say you do :) Nice!

Nice score, Gary! That is a sweet looking knife, its too bad Case decided to discontinue it.

Thats a good lookin' knife ya got there, Gary. I love the color variations in the material. You take such great photos - the subtle attributes really pop out. Thanks for sharing.

Great knife and thread Gary. :) It's always a pleasure to view your photos also. Gotta love those Case knives.
