Top pix is the basic toolkit of the sarkis. Bottom is the BirGorkha heavy duty sewing machine. Seated at the machine is sarki Govinda (I think this is his name but can't swear to it. I spent much less time with sarkis than kamis.) I'll be posting a few more sarki pix as soon as possible.

Hey!I've got those tools, how come my scabbards look like deflated basketballs?
Thanks for more interesting photos Bill.

Very serious, Matt, and the sarkis know how to use them quite skillfully. The sarkis also impressed me as being top drawer. I'll post a pix of the father of the clan late on.
He taught them well.

Dayum!!
Are those shears the kami's Ang Khola model?

That also looks like a serious gouge type tool as well.
That would make short work of cleaning the wood out of the scabbards.

Khukuri FAQ

The father of this sarki clan is maybe 65 years old with 55 years experience. I watched him work and it was a joy but I didn't have my camera with me. He, like the kamis, used his feet for various chores while making scabbards.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill,

Does the leather come dyed black or done by sarki?

Is the current leather water buffalo still?

Uncle Bill, do all HI sarkis belong to this particular clan? Sometimes HI uses visiting kamis, does the same hold true for sarkis? And are sarkis and kamis considered social equals?

Will, leather is black when we buy it and it is water buffalo.

All sarkis belong to the sarki clan and it is probably a lower caste than kamis because they work with animal hide.
