You could find a single large block of burl and send it for stabilizing....Maple burl will dye nicely. Alternately, find a dark buckeye burl and cut it up.

If K&G oesn't have what you need try WSSI 800-301-9774 they keep wood stabilized on hand for their own sales as well as stabilizing for you.

Most of my aboynia and redwood burls look nearly identical where as maple/myrtle/etc vary quite a bit.

Butch,

I've got at least 6 blocks of pretty much identical ziricote, if your interested. I get most of my wood from a local hardwood dealer in board sizes. For lumber, it's expensive, but a lot cheaper than buying in knife handle size blocks. If there is a specialty lumber dealer anywhere close to you, that might be the best route to go. It also helps a lot that you can pick your own wood. If your interested in the ziricote, e-mail me at toddrobbinsus@yahoo.com and we'll work out a trade or something.

Give Larry Davis a call. www.Galleryhardwoods.com. He has a wonderful selection of amboina and many others, Does is own stabilizing and has exceptional results. He also sells dyed and stabilized long blanks that you could easily get 6 handles out of. Drop him a line he will take care of you.

Give Delbert Ealy a call I bet hes got something that would work for you.

He has gobs of stabilized wood and very good prices. He is also very easy to get along with. I am sure he would be happy to help you out. The wood is all stabilized by W.S.S.I.
Good luck

well im still looking for just the right stuff thanks for all the leads and you can bet that soon i ll be buyi8ng a huge burl just to let dry and then send off for stabilizing

There are some lg. whole Burls in stores at Ebay! They sell scales too so i would think you could ask them to cut the whole thing for you. "Have to Match"!

Check these out,,, Ebay item#160215258241 The gut has a bunch!

Hi, I bought some amboyna from that place - very nice wood but clearly needs more time, mine was still quite wet when it came. So probably not the best source for short-term use.
