Let's see 'em, I know ya got 'em. Knives handled in MOTS

Near-simultaneous posts, Eric! That's a nice Schrade Cut Jack! The blade finish looks original!

Jeez, what a crappy topic! :p

Can we infract mods for such "Pun"-ishment? ;)

I have two, both in pretty "crappy" condition; so bad I don't think I kept my pics of them. If I still have the pics, I'll post 'em.

thx - cpr

ps - "mother of toilet seat". That's priceless!

Hahahahahah
Awesome thread Senor Bastido!!!

That doesn't quite explain MOTS.

You have to be old enough to remember that toilet seats were covered with this same cracked ice pattern celluloid back in the 40's & 50's.

Fran

Wow. I didn't know they even had toilets back in the 40's and 50's, let alone toilet seats :D

Not all of my examples are genuine. Some are Faux MOTS.

This thread is full of bon MOTS!!;)

I believe the term "Mother of Toilet Seat" was made popular by guitar heads. It was the material used on pick guards, inlays, and some horrible looking solid body guitars. I've heard it called "cracked ice" when referring to knives, but MOTS is more fun.

Here is a list of other MOTSes:

MOTS Member of the Opposite Sex
MOTS More of the Same
MOTS Military Off-The-Shelf
MOTS Mysteries of the Sith (Lucasarts Star Wars game)
MOTS Modified Off The Shelf
MOTS Match of the Season (gaming)
MOTS Member of Technical Staff
MOTS Mobile Tower System (Army)
MOTS Modified, Off-the-Shelf Software
MOTS Minitrack Optical Tracking System
MOTS Mobile on the Spot (India, prepaid card)
MOTS Mobile Optical Tracking System
MOTS Multi Organ Transplant Service (London Health Sciences Centre, Canada)
MOTS Module Test Set
MOTS Money On The Spot
MOTS Mensa of the South (magazine)

These are more of the Cracked Ice looking stuff. Still worthy of being a toilet seat.

That knife on the bottom is almost as big as a toilet seat Greg!!:D
Great examples!

You forgot; MOTS My Old Toenail Stick!!:D

Charlie, yes, it's all in minty, original condition, but it makes me nervous (although after this much time, I'd say it's pretty stable:D). Nice melon tester by the way!

FEAR. Amen to that. I'd read about the effects of celluloid, but it's one of those things you just have to see to believe. I bought several celluloid knives off ebay, really cheap, just to have a couple in my collection. I stopped after the fourth one, since the handles looked interesting, but the blades on all of them were, in a word, wrecked. I even got a nice end-of-day example, but the blades were shot.

They're each in their own zippy bag. Oh, well - it's fun to look at grandpa's pocket bling every once in a while, I guess.

thx - cpr

I usually give knives with these handles to my dad( he has about 50), but here are a few. Top is a Western States, middle is a Utica, and bottom is a Case.

Heres some of mine. I fond of the small jack knife pattern that has a screwdriver caplifter blade. A utica, an autopoint and a colonial.

Hard to shoot pics of MOTS in natural light, but if you take down the midtones, you can bring out some definition.

Here is my complete MOTS collection.

Schrade, Western Boulder, Imperial, Ulster, and Hammer Brand knives. Just looking at them gives me the urge to squat.

You guys are showing stuff that is way too nice. Here's my crappy one in a set of Imperials:

Top to bottom and left to right: Autopoint, KABAR, noname crab, Western, Imperial letter opener, and a used up abused KeenKutter. ;)
