I've got a rat somewhere in my woodpile so have rigged up a trap to see if I have any luck !

Good luck pitdog. I'd like to see a photo of a really flat rat - like the pancake mouse that Tonym posted a year or two ago.

Paiute deadfall is perfect for rats and small rodents. You can make them ultra sensitive. Give one a try and you will like it.

Still checking and nothing....it went off the first night but no rat....maybe it scared the crap outta the rat and it went somewhere else !!!!

Good effort Pit but Im thinking yuou need to shorten up that noose by a great deal. When that loop went off ol Mr Rat had a long time to skedaddle before it closed.Or you likely would of had him.Ever seen a slow rat?

Yeah I was kind of wondering why the Tiny Terror is falling down on the job. ;)

Well this was a failure !

The first night the trap was tripped but no rat, I figured the noose was too small hence the larger one in the pic when I set it again.
It had been left for a few nights and nothing. When I checked this morning the traditional rat trap under my shed had tripped but still no rat.....WTH ! What's weird is that the bait hasn't been touched !!!!

Hey Dan'l, with using the bungee cord directly above the trap there was no worry at all about the speed of the trap...this thing was dang dangerous to set ! I'd say it was at least half as fast again as using a bent sapling.

Cool trap Pit, but it may be time to set up the old faithful.

Hahaha...good stuff Tony, I remember that !

To be honest I don't think there was any problem with the trap, I catch rats with a regular store bought rat trap quite often and even that had also failed this time !
