Would you mind posting a closeup of that trap please? I cant quite make out what it is, and id like to give it a try, looks cool!

Good luck with the rat!

I wonder if using a small fishing hook and thin wire would work, bacon bits for bait.

Loved the flat rat/mouse, whatever that was.. ha ha ha ha ha ha Looked like an overseas version of our BigMac

Keep at it Pit.
When I first started trapping years agoI couldnt afford traps after purchasing the trapline.First few winters I used the figure 4 with out any luck at all.Tried everything that I could think of.Then one day I started catching the target animal. It was a subtle ajustment of the way that the trapr had to be set..Little bit of a learning curve with most stuff.Try different positions for that noose different baits.Remember rats are pretty inteligent.
Or you can say what us trappers do when up against a fairly educated "Ill leave that one for breeding stock"LOL

Sounds like you've got something a little bigger if you didn't get it with the trad mousetrap, but I could be wrong.. Best of luck with it..
I used snares for getting rid of a number of squirrels and mice when we first moved into our new place..

I have had to deal with snap trap shy rats, big smart bastards. Last year at a starch plant I trapped one 18 in nose to tail and weighed him in a bag....3lb 5 oz!!!
Take your trap and rub some of its droppings on the trap and place it where the most crap is, gather some around it too. gloves are good...
Don't set your trap and add bait to it, once they start eating the bait then set it, might take a few days for the bugger to be comfortable around it. Rats are suspicious of new additions in their environment.

good hunting!

Thanks for the great tips guys. I'm off work for a little while now so might rig up a nice deadfall for him, I really wanted to see him dangling from my spring trap though !:D
