Let's see some Basic 7s

Since there has been some discussion of the different size handles on the Basics, plus other Busse-kin knives, here is a comparative shot of some handle sizes. From the top, the handles are from:
BM-E (same as SH-E and IIRC NO-E and BA-E)
Basic 5 (same as Basic 3)
Basic 7 (same as Basic 9)
Camp Tramp (same as Battle Rat)
Scrapper 5 LE (same as Bog Dogs, Bird Dog, etc)
NICK (same as many of the Busse models from that particular era)

The B7 is probably my favorite Busse in that size category. I have one that has been satinized and convexed. I will see if I can take some pics of it tonight.

I have to say that if you are humping the knife with you all the time over some severe terrain then the performance to weight issue combined with the comfort of Res C has the Basic 9 and Basic 7 at .25 thick a really unbeatable combination as a "user" knife.

They are much lighter than the my comparable sized blades like the FSH or the Camp Tramp and they come with a really useful kydex sheath which fits really well.

I have said this before but often I think Jerry's earlier work is probably as good as it gets for "users"....it has to be difficult if what you did earlier was so on the ball...for me I have handled a SHBM and if I were to look for a knife that improves things on the Basic 9 this is it. I am hopeful that the Bushwacker Mistress will be an improvement "user wise" on this.....but I have to say that if a Basic 7 were put up on the exchange that would be just about the ideal knife for serious users who needed to operate with the knife on their belt. The S5LE from SYKCO is another prime example where the benefits of Infi and the lightness of a carry knife have been combined really well. The knives with Res C handles and simple designs have SO MUCH going for them IMO.

I have thought that before about the weight, that if it is a concern, then the Basics have a lot going for them (in addition to the very comfortable handles). If I remember correctly, the B9 weighs 14 oz. and the SHBM 21 oz., so the B9 weighs 1/3 less.

I have also thought that Jerry did some good designs with his earlier stuff - I think the success of the ASH-1 certainly proves that (in other words, the old straight handle design was a huge hit when it was reintroduced). I like some of the new stuff too, but I still have a special fondness for the SHSHII, SHBM and the Basics.

Thanks everyone for some cool pictures!

This is a cool thread :D I've always wanted one but never really got the chance. They were either snatched up already, or WAAAAY to highly priced by the time I got to any that came up :p still keeping an eye out though!

The pics of that matte version of the BB7 are simply awesome. Ban's knife is very nice looking also. Not only do I like the idea of the the Res-C handle but the small choil appeals to me also.
