Lets see some Hinderer action

I have looked over all my Hinders and opened snd closed and watched it closely ...

I still can't figure out what the problem is with people having issues closing them ???

I must be missing something totally ... they all close easily no issues getting to the lockbar or using it ....so I'm kind of lost with this ...

I have no problem closing all my other XM's and even my Fulltrack (which doesn't have the new cutout.) Like you said, they all close easily with almost no thought.

The 3 inch skinny takes a little more thought, my finger has slipped off the lockbar while closing it on more than a few occasions. I just need to think about it a little more as I close them, because my thumb doesn't fit in there. Either that, or I'm not skilled like you.

I dont have the new liner lock hinderer but does the difficulty of unlocking the blade have something to do with your skill?

Ok, call this a loss in translation over the keyboard.
No ruffled feathers here - didn’t mean to come across that way.
I genuinely am glad you find no issues.

I do and I bet others will too.

I doubt it's a "skill" type issue ... and I'm in no way saying I can do anything others can't ... and it could be there are variations from knife to knife that isn't unheard of ...

my friends 3" skinny seems to be easy to shut ... I would have to look at more than his one example to see how they worked ...

I don't buy the 3" they are a bit small for my hand ... but it reminds me of an older Mcusta liner lock that didn't have a real cut out but the texturing on the lockbar grabbed my thumb well enough to operate it ... and it wasn't a crazy heavy lockbar it was smooth a light to work ...

I may have to look around at a couple Gun shows coming up and see if they have any I can compare to my friend's.

Got the Skinny 3.0 in. I compare it in the pics to one of my 3.0 no choil Slicers.
So, the detent is perfect. I like strong detents and I wouldn't call this one strong, but it's pretty much perfect.
The closing action is a lot tougher than a standard XM-18 3.0. The lock-side or show-side scale should have been ground out to allow better thumb purchase. This was obviously a cosmetic decision, not a functionality decision. Even half 1/32 less material would make a big difference here. Smaller thumbs will fare better, probably.
It's actually thicker, and feels thicker, in hand, than a standard XM-18 3.0. It feels good in the hand, but so does a standard 3.0.
Both these 2 knives weigh exactly 3.3oz. The blade stocks appear to be almost exactly, if not, the same, without busting the caliper out.
The choil is pretty useless to me. Seems too small for me to get my index finger in - I've got pretty large mitts.
If you asked me which one I like better, at this moment in time, I'd say the standard 3.0 - mainly because of the closing difficulty/annoyance.
I'm wondering if Rick is thinking of doing this to his other knives... I think some changes need to happen before he does.

I'll do a visual comparo to the Cutjack 3.0 M390 in a few here.

Thanks for this post, I think you've made me decide to pass on one for now. I'm going to go back and try to find a no choil 3" slicer XM-18.

YESSSSS

Got the new Spanto Full Track in. Thing is Badass. The new lock-bar cutout is a MASSIVE improvement in function on this thing.

Major ergo improvement from my old Spearpoint so many months ago.

It's good to hear that the ergos are still great, I love the ergos on my spearpoint Fulltrack, and my first thought when I heard about the new cutout was that it would mess that up.

Then again, I never had any issues with my spearpoint Fulltrack like some people did, I would have been majorly peeved (and that's putting it really nicely) if mine had any of the lockstick that others experienced.

I know this is more a picture thread but figured this is the best group of people to ask. Those of you that have had both the full track and an xm24, which do you prefer?
I've had over 20 xm18 and a couple gen4 xm24s for reference and loved them so just seeing if the fulltrack is worth trying or if the xm24 is a better option if going bigger.

I traded away my XM-24 about a week after getting my Fulltrack. I just found the Fulltrack better in every way. The ergonomics are better, it carries better, its blade is better. The Fulltrack fits my hand perfectly, and it is thinner overall than the XM-24, so it sits nicely in the pocket. The blade is .16" compared to the XM-24's .19", and it has a high saber grind, and is very thin behind the edge. It has the same amount of cutting edge as the XM-24, on a slightly shorter blade, since the choil is a little smaller. It's a tank of a knife and can cut anything you throw at it.

Here's an old picture of the Fulltrack between the 3.5" XM-18 and the XM-24

XM24 and Full Track are very different beasts. I can do some detailed side by side pics that would show the dimensional differences at least.

EDIT: Silent beat me to it.
The XM feels just massive in the hands.
I would love to try an XM24 Skinny, but I don’t think any Gen6s have been made yet.

Forgive my ignorance but Hinderers website is awful and hasn't been updated in ages.

So the "S" on the flipper tab is only reserved for a "skinny" model and not both a "skinny" and slicer grind?

Thanks for the advice to both you and KVT. Like I said I've had a couple 24s so know how they feel and perform but wanted to see how it compared to the fulltrack. Just have to keep an eye out for one now. Thanks gents
