Lets see some Hinderer action

"Not available outside of the US, and to certain areas within the US." Could anyone elaborate a bit on this ( J Jordan@DLT ?)?

#NotJordan, but you can try yourself:

When I have, say, a > 2" Microtech in my DLT cart with CA address, I get:

"There has been an error in your shipping quote. You have an item in your cart that cannot ship to certain areas of the US and/or outside of the US"

Before putting it in my cart, I have to acknowledge that ownership is legal in my state (which it is, AFAIK, just not to carry, possess in a vehicle or location open to the public, or transferred). Note that USPS has additional limitations that might come into play here.

^this is correct as far as I know. I was able to purchase an Ultratech recently, even though they are illegal where I live

Thank you guys. I guess I no longer need to complete for that beautiful Hinderer auto (even though my sole purpose would be admiring and fondling it at home). Never owned any autos, butterflies, etc hence my question.

I like the idea of the auto hinderer, but at the same time I think "what's the point"? The XM-18's deploy so fast with the flipper, even if you pull it out of your pocket in an emergency under stress and can't get the optimal hand position that you would need to snap open a knife with thumb studs. And they're a nice fidget toy as they are already.

I just like flipper knives as a general rule, and OTF autos are a lot of fun too, but most of my flippers are just as fast to deploy as my folding autos. So, I wont rule one of these out, but it's also $250 more than picking up a used XM-18 flipper on the exchange.

Managed to get one of the autos. Looks like all models sold out in less than a minute.
Their website "pulled an Apple" and like with pre-orders for an iPhone it stopped responding for me 🤣

The Story - I had decided to try a blue for my son and working finish for me, since I could always return them if we didn't like them. I made sure I had the correct address and credit card in my account, and was signed in before sales opened. I had everything ready to go before the drop, and both in the cart within 5 seconds of the drop going live using my iPhone and Macbook.

But the green "Proceed to Checkout" button was totally unresponsive. Went through the PayPal process instead, and things went fine to choose my funding source in the PayPal popup just fine, but it would return me to DLT cart with no change in the page, and the "Proceed to checkout" unresponsive. Refreshed the page, and nothing, then refreshed again the cart loaded again so I tried Venmo. That went fine with scanning the QR code, and back to shopping cart with no change, and still can't proceed to checkout.

Refreshed page and now the blue is out of stock and it took 15 seconds to remove blue so I could try again, as they hid this tiny grey X button on the top right of the page and I hadn't prepared for the possibility of them not proceeding to just sell the one still in stock without removing the other. This time "Proceed to checkout" works and I get to choose my shipping address, shipping speed, chose to do payment with stored credit card, and I can't proceed again. I enter a new credit card number, and then get told stock is too low to proceed.

I was probably 4-5 seconds too slow to get one, and it looks like they were already gone before I got to the point of entering the new credit card number. That's probably why the stored card didn't work - because they were gone by the time I got to that point. If the site hadn't gone unresponsive or if they'd had a quick "buy now" button like Amazon maybe I'd have snagged one.

So maybe fate was telling me I didn't need it ;) and If I need to use a OTS automatic, I really love my pair of Benchmade CLA (different scales and blades) and they're a better size, speed, and weight (Better than my Auto Presidio II and Auto Stryker, or Gerber Propel, or Boker Strike and mini strike, or Dessert warriors).

This was more about the challenge of getting one on the first drop, and a little bit of FOMO sprinkled in. Now I'm over it. Regardless, I will not be paying much at all over MSRP for one of these on the secondary market, as it's just not that important to me.

EDIT - LOL it's still in my cart...

I feel your pain. Hell, it was actually a relief not chasing this one. What sux is that I'll end up paying some flipper on the auction site a premium plus tax and shipping.

Thankfully I’m not much into auto knives. I heard my wallet sigh relief on this one...

Missing out has actually helped me appreciate my XM-18 3.5" flipper on bearings, as I just feel more connected to the heart and soul of the knife, in a similar way that I feel more connected to my mechanical watches than my quartz watches.

I've had the auto since Friday. As it comes from the factory, it is pretty strong and snappy when opening. Quite a bit of tension on the spring as it comes out of the box. I haven't changed that setting figuring that if it came that way, I'll leave it the way they set it up. The knife has grown on me a little, but for me it is a bit underwhelming, to be honest. Maybe in time I'll grow to like it more as I use it. I have seven other Hinderer knives, so it's not my first time using their knives.

Some pictures of the auto please? I put it in my shopping cart but then questioned whether I really want it given the unknown factors and of course the $. The knife was gone before I could make a decision.

Here’s a couple quick shots I took with my phone here at work today. Not the best looking pictures, but I think they are ok. I’m thinking about changing some of the hardware to a different color. Maybe that would give the knife a little more contrast instead of the single color.

Yeah, you should give that a try first, adding a little color hardware and clip, etc, could break up the monotony of silver there. Hang onto it for a while to see what happens and if it grows on you.

I was ordering one in blue and one in working finish, and then before I could check out blue was gone and had remove it from my cart as it didn't go away automatically. That slowed me down and then when I got to the last step, after choosing payment type and hit submit, the working finish was also gone. Silver was my last choice, but then I was like maybe some blue hardware would fix that, but then those were gone too and I was stuck with working finish in my cart and no blue left to add.
