awesome. I have the ZT version of the warnie eklipse, two of them actually, so i was thinking about having bgm do a hollow on one. How is the action now that some weight has been taken out of the blade? i had a xm18 sheepsfoot that john put a crazy sick hollow on, looked amazing, cut amazing, super clean work. but the action was just not satisfying anymore and i suspect it was because so much weight was taken out of the blade. i know a knife should cut before it has good action, but i just love a nice action. especially my hinderers, the big heavy blades make the action so nice and satisfying. i have a bowie eklipse getting a hollow right now, and i told him to keep it a little on the thicker side this time.

I haven’t actually handled it yet, it’s on its way back to me, but I will let you know when it comes in. Compared to other Eklipses I’ve handled (harpoon spanto, tanto, Bowie) I think the Wharncliffe has the lightest blade. The harpoon Spanto was probably the heaviest.

totally misinterpreted your post, duh you havent received it yet. youll have to let me know what you think when you get it. looks amazing

yeah my spanto xm's are super heavy and makes for good action, i just put thick skiff washers in one of them as an experiment and i like it so far. with skiff bearings, it was butter smooth drop shut. now its just butter smooth washer action, works pretty well. i polished them a bit on my green compound strop, im going to leave it and see how it breaks in.

my hollow slicer eklipse has perfect action, at least for my taste. i use steel bearing skiffs in all my hinderers, steel balls just to keep it like oem. the main benefit imo is the tighter tolerance around the pivot, and im sure the increased ball count has some benefits. oem stamped washers always fit very loosely around the pivot, sloppy. but skiffs fit nice and tight so the bearings rotate more freely, since the motion is restricted to basically a perfect circle track. i put skiffs in everything but when a knife doesnt have hardened steel washers for it ride on, and comes with steel bearings from the factory, i try to use the skiff equivalent when the size is available. hard to film with my crappy old phone but heres an idea of what its like, its not been cleaned or lubed in weeks.

The Shield was one of my very first knives. I believe it was the first one I ordered online after being impressed with a Leek and an Amplitude I bought at Walmart. I’ve gone through several, but this one stays new. It’s quite thin and smaller than an Eklipse or 0392. I’d love it if Kershaw brought this knife back with some updates.

thats pretty awesome. would love to see them make that in a premium version whether under Kershaw or ZT. could be really cool. i would love it so much for ZT to bring back alot of the awesome Hinderer collabs from back in the day. would be amazing with Kai's new heat treat standards

Fullered Skinny BPU Eklipse Harpoon Spanto, full Ti as well on this BPU which I didn’t realize was a little more rare bc most BPU models have G10 show side scales.

That looks so awesome. These full ti smooth scale bpu Eklipse's I've been seeing are starting to make me change my mind on bpu's. There's one on bladebinge right now for $$$$$, but I think these look fantastic

Now it's my turn to wait 😂 can't wait to get this thing, I had it shipped directly to John from the dealer so I haven't even seen it yet. I have skiff steel bearings for it, and a horse head scale. And hopefully some bronze/gold hardware in the works

the inspiration for the blade, the zt 0392blubowie, i think it turned out amazing. exactly what i had in mind, even better than i imagined. black flats and satin grinds

Oh my

I'm curious about what the group here thinks, what's everyone's favorite blade grind/shape for the eklipse and xm-18?

For the eklipse I think mine would just be the classic slicer, ideally the new hollow slicer.

For the xm, the slicer is definitely up there, but in the interest of some variety I think it would be another classic, the spanto. Perhaps the harpoon spanto

I know there are much more exotic choices out there but I am making my decision on if I had to have just one eklipse and one xm. Therefore I am making the safe choice for a good, usable, not ostentatious, yet mistaken hinderer grinds.

In XM-18 my favorite grind is the harpoon spanto
Eklipse probably the same but the tanto and bowie grinds look very good too
