Nice one! Here is one that I bought in W. Malaysia in 1971 that's around 60 plus years old. Those people had little hands!

French commoners in the middle ages carried essentially a huge butcher knife as their eating and fighting knife.

So the story goes.

I listen to a lot of history audiobooks at work. It's mostly background noise while I work but every once in a while something sinks in. One recent book recounted a story about a battle in Paris during the Reformation. Some enemy force was marching on the city so the Mayor or some other local leader recruited a militia made up of butchers in the city's defence. Not only did they come with their own weapons but they were inured to the sights, sounds and smells of slaughter.
