Lets see some users...

That is one gritty looking knife! Well done! :)

Hey Leatherman, any pics of a rat mastiff in use?

Mine has split logs at camp (no camera) firewood for the grill (no pics of that either :o ) Chopped up huge chunks of wax for candle making (struck the ceramic tile floor too many times to count) No camera that time either. Seems I'm too distracted by the task at hand to think of taking pics, the next time I get some wood to demolish I'll make sure the camera is with me.

It got those stripes from the logs for that camp, darned hard seasoned oak, it took forever and a few beer breaks to get through a couple. :D

You can tell it's well-loved. :) I think it looks awesome like that, just a beast of a knife. Thanks for sharing.

My first Swamp Rat. Already posted these elsewhere. Someone mentioned a Mastiff, here is mine.

My rodent solution resharpened after cutting apart some steel roofing/siding for the cowshed

That rodent solution looks great.

I had the edge at 15 dps and tore it up pretty bad as the steel siding caused the blade-edge to twist powerfully during some of the cuts, but it sharpened out easily on a Crystolon benchstone and is now back to hair-shaving

Do you sharpen with a V-ground edge?

I mostly hand-grind (no angle guide) and finish on sandpaper+mousepad strop, removing the stone-grind marks and blending the apex into the edge-bevel, the bevel shoulders slightly rounded. It isn't quite flat "V" but I wouldn't call it a true "convex" either since the edge bevel is thinner than that might imply to the imagination. The difference in thickness between my convex and true-flat would be <0.001" which is difficult to distinguish by hand (you'd need to accurately measure from precisely the same height from the apex - not easy with most human eyes and micrometers). I'll try to shoot a picture of the apex, but here is my Rodent 9's axe-like convex-edge to compare:

Because the R9 is so thick behind the edge, it's easy to see the convex shape of the edge-bevel. The RS is so much thinner behind the edge that the bevel has only a short distance to present the slightly convex surface, and the coating belies this by presenting an obvious transition point.

Um... did I answer the question?

Here's a few user shots breaking in my zombie green 311 from today. I got some sunburn and needed me some raw aloe vera gel, don't know of anything better to put on burns...... :) I like to cut into palm sized sections and slice in half, then use my fingernails to scrape away the gel from the skin.

A muddy Mastiff is now my grail of grails!

Yep, there is just something about the mastiff that makes it stand out. Dang hard to find though, unless money is no object. Maybe if SR re-releases the ratweiler it will take the edge off the mastiff urge! :) (Probably not :()

I'd say it is still a challenge even if money is no object!
From what I have seen, I got mine at a decent enough price point
