yes, it is the BK1. Big hunk of steel. I wasn't overly impressed with the grind and sharpness, so I re-profiled it, a bit steeper angle, and now it cuts&chops very nicely.
The Micarta scales helped too, the plastic handles were just too, well, uncomfortable. The micartas are an improvement.

I've had the Trekker (bottom right) a long time, it's been my companion knife for many trips and most camp chores.
Cutting food, wittling hotdog sticks, removing a pesky low limb, the saw is great, it still has wood chips in the teeth.
For slashing and chopping I always used my Ontario Machete, again, something i've had for years, it's out in the shed, it's a yard chore item.

Hey Rupe,
Was that one of those Desert BK7s that you polished up?? Looks nice.

Yep. I left the coating on the tang under the slabs to protect against rust but the blade is "nekid". I had worn most of the coating off so decided to make it look presentable again :p .

The BK1 coating is not rubbing off a quick as i thought it would. I seems to be a heavier splotchier coating than what I saw on the Bk9s and 7s, which were more like a smooth coat.
I think the fact that I reground and sharpened it the way I did, it's slicing better through wood, so, it's not "scuffing" through, up the side of the blade.
just a theory.
I'm going to dedicate it to splitting kindling for my woodstove and have it by the back door, we'll see how it does after a couple staright months of splitting down maple and wild cherry.

The best thing about looking over photos posted here in W.S.S. forum is, most of the knives post look as though they have actually been used:eek:

Great pics everyone!

My three main used over the summer, fall season.

I'm not financed well enough to have "safe queens". :p

Might as well collect Beanie-Babies or baseball cards if you're going to gamble on collectables. They collect dust just as well as knives. :D
