I'm rethinking some carry items.. to try and save on space.. Just wanted to see pics of your fire kits>>Not for a psk but one to keep n a pack for general bushcraft outingslike overnights or day trips... I'll post mine when it's done....

I’ll add the pictures when I get home this evening but here is a description of the pocket kit.
In a round 2 ½” by 1” tin I have;
In the top
1. One PJ cotton ball unrolled and nestled in the top
2. Jute cord combed out stuck to the PJ cotton ball above
In the bottom
3. Five throat lozenge size pieces of dried Napalm Fire Goo
4. A two finger steel striker
5. 1 ½” square of flint, with 4 good sides
6. A layer of 2 unrolled cotton balls
7. Under the above 2 cotton balls 6 squares of char cloth

At home I have a leather roll pouch that has a tin of char cloth, a large steel striker, a large chunk of flint. A small tin of PJ cotton balls, a pile of fat lighter wood and Jute cord, a piece of beeswax candle, a bit of starter log I made up of fat lighter sawdust in beeswax, a couple pieces of old newspaper.

I have multiple firekits. My favorite is flint and steel with a ferro rod and striker in 2nd place. I take jute and char with the flint and steel and generally no tinder with a ferro rod.

Here is little neck carry kit that I made for a firesteel.

Mine consists of :
- Firesteel and striker
- Fatwood
- Cotton
- Inner tube

I keep it in an Altoids tin :)

I have two firekits, this is my most extensive one and the one that I use when practicing etc......

And this is my emergency back-up one, I can't even remember what I sealed in here exactly but I do know I was very confident in getting a fire going in wind and rain with what is inside....

I've got mine in an Altoids tin. It has a sharpened Gossman ferro striker, ferro rod, hacksaw blade, charcloth, steel wool, fatwood, jute, and a couple of jumbo size firestraws.

not to burn pit to fasten the kit tight but thanks i will try it

Pimpnuget, I love the file striker. Mines throws sparks like a flame thrower.

When there's snow on the ground I carry a whole pouch of firestarting goodies...

But when it's warmer and there's no snow to worry about, I cut it down to my EDC Bic in my pocket and a ferro rod+striker and a film canister of PJCB in my pack...nothing exciting enough to photograph...

Mine isnt really a kit exactly, it is more acuratly described as "multiple bits of fire starting equipment distributed throughout my person". I keep a leather case that contains a firesteel and striker in one pocket, a chunk of fatwood in another pocket, some steel wool and jute in my gum-tin and some wax paper in a pouch on my keyring and a fire straw in my wallet. I am looking for a really small tin for shar cloth, that way, starting a fire with my cellphone would be easier. I am also considering adding a frensel lense (wallet sized) to my wallet. I do not like the idea of a "kit". I dont like to put all of my equipment in the same place.

I have my fire kit stashed in multiple places in my maxpedition bottle holder with a 3X5 piggy backed. Let me see if I can remember what's in it.
2 pads OOOO steel wool
mini bic
6-10 fire straws
4" X 1/2" fire steel
random first aid supplies that can be used
1 oz bottle rubbing alcohol
3-4 alcohol prep pads
tube of carmex
and I have a mini ferro rod on my keys and some fire straws(3) in my wallet. I carry jute when I have a pack on but I need to find a spot in my bottle holder for some.

Try a #11 percussion cap tin.

I like kits for grab and go or stash and have but I sure understand your thinking on it, I use the LMF fire steels as zipper pulls and keep one on my key ring, other stuff is spread around too.

This is the kit I use to light all my fires. Newman's tin, same size as Altoids. Fat wood pieces, jute, roll of char cloth, and a small broken piece of fire steel from a LMF scout.
