Lets see those Leeks!

Today's is the 1660TGRYST. It is the only currently made tanto Leek. It has the S30V blade and the whole thing has a gray coating just like their black coating they use. It is TOUGH! I ended up buying an extra one of these to rotate in my EDC.

How well is the tanto style suited for the Leek? Leeks have a fairly thin blade so it makes me wonder:confused:

IMO Leeks in general aren't made for heavy duty tasks. I've seen a lot of them with broken tips. As long as you know what use a knife is made for, it works great. I love the Leek because I never have a need for hard use. I've used it for normal paper, cardboard, twine, plastic bags, zip ties, food, some other light duty tasks that I can't remember. I've never tried to pry open a car door (someone else has and broke theirs), never tried using it as an ice pick, never tried to cut through steel cable.

I guess to answer your question, the tanto blade is suited just as well as the regular blade. It works great if you use it for what it was made for.

That Damascus looks great on the Leek, good to see a pic other than the manufacturers ones.

Brand new, half an hour old. The only thing it had cut yet is a piece of paper for a test. Don't know if it's as sharp as my sharpening job on my Whirlwind...
*Ouch* Maybe it is...

I agree, every damascus Kershaw I've had is just amazing.
I guess whenever I see tanto anything, I think of them being used for stabbing
Sounds like a challenge. I just so happen to have an extra tanto Leek. I'll start stabbing stuff and taking pictures until it breaks. If you have any suggestions, let me know...just keep it somewhat realistic :)

As for Leek of the day (getting caught up and ahead for a couple days) - for 1/9/2012 there is the 1660H3 Leek. It has black aluminum scales with the DLC coated blade. It also has a huge Kershaw logo right on the scale. I think these are available at a couple different big box stores.

For 1/10/2012 there is the plain jane 1660. It's as basic as you get. This is the newer one with the 14C28N steel (older ones had 13C26). For as cheap as these things go, it's a steal for the quality of the knife.

For 1/11/2012 there is the 1660DSBLKST. I think they just want to see how many letters they can put after 1660 :) The DS is for desert sand, which is the color of the aluminum scales. The BLK is for the black blade. And the ST is for the combo/partial serrated blade. I like this color combination like I do the olive green / black combo. I think it goes very nice together.

For 1/12/2012 there is the 1660RAT. This is the only Leek in existence to my knowledge that has a different type of clip. Other than that, it's fairly basic with the red aluminum scales, regular bead blasted blade, and the Snap On logo.

For yesterday there is the 1660BWCKT. It has the black and white smoked aluminum scales and the black DLC coated blade. The black and white smoked series were discontinued a while ago so these are getting harder and harder to find. I still have not been able to find the serrated version of this one (1660BWCKTST).

For today there is the 1660TROUT. You guessed it, there's a big ol' trout hanging out on the side of this one. This is actually done very well and if I was into fishing, it would probably be even cooler.

For tomorrow there is the 1660OCC. This is another Kershaw / Orange County Choppers collaboration. This one is all black (black aluminum scales and black DLC coated blade). It then has an aluminum overlay on the non-clip scale that has a spider and spider web cutout. It also has the OCC chopper logo etched on the blade. This one comes in a cool little tin that I forgot to include in the picture.

And for 1/16/2012 there is the 1660BP. There are 2 Leeks with the model # as 1660BP. This one has the black pearl inlay. I love all of the Leeks that have these small inlays. It just has a little something extra to stand out from the rest and this pearl looks very nice.

I dare you to calculate all the possible combos of handle/blade LOL!
So I actually did this. I could be off by a few but it doesn't really matter. Out of the 100+ different types of Leeks that I know of, I came up with 54 different handle types, 28 different blade types, 3 different screws colors, and 4 different clips. This came out to a total of 18,144 different combinations that could be made.

For the handles, I included differences if they had a logo or not. For example 1660 is the plain jane regular silver. 1660SO is the same except it has Snap On etched on the handle. I counted that as 2.

For the blades, I included differences such as serrations, no serrations, polished, bead blasted, stonewashed, matte, etc.

The screws I know of are silver, black, and gold.

The clips I know of are black, silver, gold, and a ratchet style (found on 1660RAT).

The amazing part of that statistic is that it is factory combinations. I wonder if it's possible that the Skyline would ever get there. I say no way.

How did you know I was about to ask why that model was numbered 1660RAT instead of 1660SO? You are just FULL of useful information! :)

DAMN!

Ok now I dare you to own them all! LOL :D

The first knife I ever bought was the g10/s30v Leek. EDCed it for the longest time. My only complaint would be the clip position in the tip up carry configuration.
Since then, I've also gotten the black shiny handle/rainbow blade leek. I don't know what it's called.

Well I don't think they're really factory combinations. You can't order a rainbow handled leek with tanto blade and snap on clip.

Blem from Kershaw Guy. Great knife. Not as nice as the 0550 but nice. I ordered the s30v blk- g10 blem as well.

What I meant by that was, all factory parts. No custom scales or anything.

DeAdEyE956 sweet knife! could you tell what the blem was? I just got an orange Skyline, and I can not tell what the problem is with it!
Enjoy, Steve

I was hoping you could tell me Steve. LoL there was a smudge and it was in a ziploc bag. I didn't hesitant buying another blem from kershaw guy.
