Let's See Your 9

Haven't done too much to mine yet. Just the grips. Not suite sure how I feel about this 'camo' pattern yet... but it can always be sanded off or I can finish coloring them black. Started with the standard tan (w/ reddish hue) canvas micarta grips... put a few dabs of green food coloring on a paper towel and blotted the grips... rinsed, wiped, rubbed the scales down with mud and rinsed again (just wanted to dirty it up a little) then I just used a sharpie to add the black blobs... Finally I used a small triangular file to grind in the lines. It provides just a hair more grip than the normal smooth micarta scales. I kinda like it.. but we'll see(the color/look... they feel great). The only use this has seen was clearing some dead branches off a couple of queen palm trees in the back yard - Palm is some HARD stuff! Wasn't terribly hard to chop through, but I was surprised how much it marred up the finish. After that I cleared a couple of low branches off of the lemon tree, and slices up a few lemons, just to keep the edge patina'd a little.

I love my BK9.. I was really considering buying the Junglas too... and I also love ESEE... I have the ESEE 5, 6 and Izula... but I just don't think I need it. I'll probably end up getting the Junglas sheath though, since it's great and compatible with the BK9.

I loves those scales malice! awesome work!

Thanks! I really wasn't sure how I was feeling about it and didn't have this as the intended goal... I just wanted to darken them up a bit from that light tan color that they come. :) I think I'm gonna have to order some of these for my BK2 as well... and I'm anxious to get a 16 and probably a 7 soon as well!

We have had some good times here are a few pics all the way back to when she was new.

Here is my 9 before I stripped it. First baton attempt on some soft alder went well.

I like your "well-worn" BK9 look Psyop. BTW were you able to lop off the rooster head in one swipe? I have a weighted hatchet I usually use but maybe the BK9 would be interesting to try for a change.

Yes the 9 took its head off clean with one chop.

Uncle Malice, those are some awesome scales! Does the sharpie rub off though if your hands are sweaty or whatever?

Your 9 with carbon fiber is sweet! (pun intended) :D

I got mine and love it, I'll post a thread with pics when I upload them.

Thanks. :)

It doesn't seem to. Granted it's only been a day... but I've been playing with it around the house and trimming up some bushes just to give it some use in the hand... and it doesn't seem to have worn at all. I was actually sort of hoping it would as I like a good worn in look... but they seem to be holding up just fine!

a crappy pic from a thread i started when i first got my BK9 a couple years back. she looks pretty used now, so i dont have any newer pics, but this is some venison loin i prepared for the grill using the BK9 and the scalpel it came with...drool...i might have to dig in the freezer now and see what i got leftover from last season
