post up photos of your homemade "billy's"

here is mine, made from a SS stackable container, with holes drilled for a wire bail. Also have a cable to hang it over a fire. Big enough to brew a cuppa for one!

Very nice!

I just use an old canteen cup. I like your idea though. I'll have to work on it. :D

Been on the hunt for a good billy for a long time. I wish the US distributor for Zebra would get off their duff, I want one badly! But for now, I use a coffee can billy, which works fine to be honest.

i picked up my zebra billy in byron bay when i was out travelling. used it from byron bay to cairns and brought it back with me to Canada. I still use it for making campfire stews and such.

i wish there was a local canadian dealer of zebra pots as they really are some of the best billy cans out there.

I always use a large empty coffee can , two holes poked, and a coat-hanger wire bail. I use it for any hot water needs, and it's always on the fire. I do boil my Tea/coffee water separately in another vessel though. I would like to have a stainless steel one such as you have, but haven't found a suitable one yet.

got an Ikea near ya? they always have sets of three nesting SS containers

Thanks Bushman. I'll check it out. A billycan is a must for the bush , IMO.

I really like the Tatonka billycan. Short an wide, heavier bail that locks for pouring and to keep the handle from falling over into the fire and the lid has a removable handle to use it as a frying pan.

I had to order mine from the UK, but MEC sells the 1.6L and 2L versions.

So what are the top three commercially available billys?

My birthday was last weekend and me brother gifted me with a GSI Java Press which I have been using in the house. A really nice piece of gear for those of us who are addicted to the caffeine.

I have a question for the tin can guys...I've wanted to do this for a long time but it seems that most cans I come across have a coating inside.. any leads onm a can without said coating... I don't like ingesting anymore industrial chemicals than I have to.

+ 1 for the old canteen cup. There's a series on u-tube on how to bake in them that you can probably transfer to billy cans. I was amazed. But, then again, I eat bugs, too.

plunk it into the fire and burn it out completely. Then coat with veggie oil and let it bake in.

go to target and go to one of those things in the kitchenware section that is made for coffee tea and sugar
