Well I have commissioned a skilled craftsmen to build my dream knife and hopefully have it in my hands soon! But soon however can't come fast enough! Haha Below is a sketch that I have made up of exactly what I want. However, I would love to see some of you guys' bowie ideas that were made a reality. This is what I'm thinking about for mine per my specs and sketch measurements since this is a 1:1 scale drawing: 10 7/16" total blade length including rocaso, 1 13/16" blade width. The steel will be 5/16" CPM 3V @ 60HRC with a full flat grind and convex edge as well as a clip point that has a false edge on it. The finish will be satin. There is a fuller, but I think I will take that off. The handle will be removable black canvas micarta with G10 red liners, still deciding on the length and width. What do you guys think? Below is my sketch. Man I cannot wait. BTW, this is my first custom knife. Might as well make it big, right?

He was not offering you anything or suggesting a maker

He was giving you links to threads with lots of Bowie pics in them

Hope this helps

No worries

There are a lot of Bowie threads here and with the much anticipated Best of 2014 Bowie thread aproaching in the next few weeks you will get to see the best of the best

Here's a bowie I designed for the maker to sell to someone else. I wish it was for me, but I'm financially challenged :)

Rick made some changes to suit his aesthetic and his constuction methods;

And the finished piece;

This is the finished drawing. I apologize for the crappy lighting.

Pretty much looks like a Randall Model 14 with a single finger groove, a shortened ricasso and a flat guard, maybe a 11" blade.

Why bother with custom?

Best Regards,

Because it has inferior steel, too small, non removable scales, non exposed tang, not the grind I want, and much more; overall just not what I want. And, I'm getting all of the features I want including a sheath for only marginally more than the Randal model 14 that you see on ebay. In my opinion, Randall knives are WAY overpriced. And to top it off, I'll have this knife in my hands by mid to late January! As opposed to waiting 4+ years as I have heard.

Mate looks like the blade has a crack just back from the point
No cracks, bud... most likely a product of the "aging" patina I give my blades through an acid etch. I can see what you are talking about, though. I look at it as a depth gage to let you know when the tip begins to penetrate the heart... :thumbup:

Thanks for posting it, Lorien!

The Genre of the bowie covers many different designs , styles and uses

No design is wrong....no design is 100 percent right

The word Bowie has become an all encompassing term to describe a big knife :)

For me my attention and passion for this genre is focused on Fighting Bowies

In this world radical Distel Taper , sharpened clips and usually stock tangs rule the day

So different designs elicite different types of knives

I agree Rick no crack but at that etch mark you are not even getting thru my pectorial muscle :)
