There have to be some folks here with custom/handmade knives with Kirinite handles.

Let's see 'em!

Here is one I own, to start:

I like the look of that handle but some that I have seen on websites for the product are no quite so cool. I had not heard of the product until you posted so TY. For others that are unaware of the product a quick internet search will find lots of links including one I found that a maker speaks about his experiences with the product -- all quite positive.

Thanks, Murray. There was a thread about Kirinite here a couple of years ago. I liked it but was in a very distinct minority here. I think the people who tend to post here tend to be older and more traditional minded and tend to prefer more traditional materials.

I have seen some knifes where I did not like it - especially with Damascus blades. Highly polished blades go better with it, IMO. I've seen a lot of fine-looking slip joints. And kitchen knives. I like the fact that it is sufficiently grippy when wet, but it is also not real absorptive. Easy to clean; low maintenance.

Here's a couple I've made. I have a couple other colors for future builds. I like the stuff.

Thanks for sharing those. I like em'.

It's modern, COLORFUL, and pretty durable. I've seen some very cool handles.

I'm with The Virginian on the approvals. :D

I have some, because I thought it was cool to look at. :P I haven't used any on my work yet. Once I do, I'll post some up.

Hey Ken, I am one of the oldest goats here and while I like a lot of traditional items, I really like folks to express themselves and find new ways of doing things and if what is done appeals to my taste, I and I think like you and from what Coop has expressed, I am sure we will see makers use this material on a variety of types of knives.

One thing for sure is that it is unlikely to end up shrinking nor being illegal. Two thumbs up there.

I really enjoy using Kirinite, as a beginner I find it a pleasure to work with.
I've forged about 15 blades over the last couple of years.

Here is my first knife:

I'm glad for this thread. I got a project in the works where this material would be suitable, but never considered it

In my opinion, as a handle material, it renders a custom knife virtually worthless....in a way that G-10 or Micarta does not.

It's tacky plastic.

Mother of Bowling Ball (MOBB).....Mike drop.

While it may not be the best choice of handle material in all situations, the most expensive or exotic out there, I'd hardly say worthless. My nephew and I skinned and quartered a deer he killed the day I gave him his knife. Very serviceable and can be finished to an attractive high luster.

Not a fan of the material and that’s coming from the king of Linen Micarta fans .....I really like synthetics for many reasons

But this example is the finest I’ve seen using the said material and is a knife I’d be proud to own
