Let's see your EDC evolution

Too many to list, but I remember carrying a Buck 110 in high school in the early 70's. I eventually (still in high school) covered the stock sheath with gray rabbit fur. Girls loved it.

It didn't wear terribly well, though. :thumbdn:

:)

Add a stockman and a grandaddy barlow and you have it.

When I was a kid, it was either a Schrade 34OT or a Cave Bear. Cold Steel Voyagers, were my first real one hand opening folders. 3" lockbacks, first a tanto, then a drop point. Then a couple Kershaw Scallions, I really liked those. SOG Flash II's and Twitch II's/XL's. All manner of CRKT knives, mainly the M16 AUS8 and AUS6 models, the Bwana, all kinds. Almost got an S30V Leek, had a regular Leek for a while. Then got a Delica GIN1 SE, didn't like the serrations, got an Endura later on, missed the Delica and got a Delica 3. Had a couple Delica 4's and Endura 4's in there. Native was one of my favorites. Got a 550 Grip 440C, then a 551 Grip. Then a 556. Got a 710 and a 707, then got the Ritter Grips, reg and mini.

Right now, the Ritter Grips are my EDC folders, with a SAK. I sometimes rotate my Sebenzas or SNG and PT in. I used to be of the mindset that bigger was better, but I like carrying a 3" folder around town, for small tasks. I use my bigger folders when I am working outside, or hiking etc, but I am usually somewhere a smaller FB can do the job. I got a Delica 4 in a trade recently, and have been carrying that in place of the Ritters off and on.

I am eagerly awaiting my first custom folder, an Obenauf small model 2 that I picked up in a trade.

Started out with a Kershaw Chive, then got a Leek and loved it. Around then, I got really into Spydercos. This lasted around a year or two, probably around 15 spydercos have been through my hands. Then I got a small sebenza and carried that for about a year and loved it. I was buying benchmades too. Then, a couple of months ago I started carrying my Case CV stockman a lot and realized a good slipjoint was all I needed and they were the best for me. So now I only own two tacticals (Spyderco Salt 1 and BM 940) and a bunch of traditional slipjoints. I find I enjoy the more simple, old fashioned stuff and prefer the cheaper traditionals too, like the Opinel and Mora. I guess I'm going backwards in time. Eventually I'll be carrying around an obsidian flake probably...

I carried all kinds on production and custom models (see link in my signature) but ended up with 10 years old Sebenza with BG42 blade.

I carried a Buck 110 back in the 90s.

Then I got to college and realized that I was going to be walking around campus all day and didn't need that heavy knife on my belt, so I switched to a Kershaw with a pocket clip. I carried it for a few years, then EDC'd several different Spydercos.

Now for the past three years I've EDC'd a Benchmade 710.

So over the past fifteen years or so of knife carry, I've EDC'd maybe five or six different knives. The 710 will probably be replaced by a Spyderco Paramilitary sometime in the near future.

I started with an Endura 1 SE and Victorinox Spartan, now i have 40-50 options to choose from.

I've been carrying knives for almost 50years. Who remembers what they all were?

Gosh, who can remember all those knives!

I know my first was an offical Boy Scout pocket knife, though! :D

After that, it was a list of mostly SAKs, Gerbers, and Spydercos. My current EDC rotates between a Spyderco Endura and a Kershaw Leek.

Good thread, brings back memories.

Let me see:
1988-93: noname lockback bought from a local grinder selling knifeware in the marketplace. Profile similar to a Buck 110 but much thinner.
1993-97: Victorinox camper
1997-2001: small noname framelock
2001-2007: Leatherman Wave
2007 (XMas)... : now this is when knife collecting really got a hold on me. Now I have an EDC rotation instead of a simple EDC blade. Spyderco Caly3, Paramilitary, Military, small Sebenza, BM 710 and BM mini Dejavoo see the most pocket time.

starting in:
late 7th grade: Chinese SAK coppy
Early eghth grade: Cheap chinese Horeshoe scout reservation knife or some American gerber but I cant remember the model
Late eighth grade: CS Recon 1 and VIC camper
9th grade: CS scimitar and leatherman Kick
After I graduated 9th grade. BM minigrip or spyderco delica and Leatherman Kick or SAK
January 10th grade: BM 710 or BM minigrip and SAK or LM Kick and/or Boker trapper
Febuary 10th grade: BM mini-rukus
Late 10th grade: Spyderco para, BM mini-rukus, Kershaw G-10 s30v leek, or BM Kulgera and SAK or LM kick
Early 11th grade: BM kulgera or spyderco Para and SAK or LM Charge TTI and/or LM micra and/or Boker trapper(lost for most of 10th grade then found)
Now: BM kulgera, Spyderco Para, or Spyderco mini-manix and VIC camper or LM Charge TTI and/or BM Activator and/or boker trapper

Soon: My GEC pioneer in red barnboard bone and 1095 steel, I need to sharpen it up to a respectable level first, It's amazing in every other respect though

As a kid an old hardware store barlow.(Damn I wish I still had that knife) I didn't edc in my teens but when I started working full time I carried a Uncle Henry lockback. Since then it changes a lot but I always have a slippie and maybe my Spyderco Manix or my Al Mar SERE 2000. In the woods it's a fixed blade, either my Brian Goode custom or my Busse Game Warden. Always have a slippie though.

my first knife was a keychain sak, then started moving up to bigger boyscout saks. then my mom gave me her dad's sak he got in switzerland with his name engraved on it. it had a lot of junk in it and i loved that.

then when i got into my pre teens i started to prefer my other grandpa's old timers, uncle henrys, westerns, and case knives. no tools and lots of blades, Mmmmm. this is when i started getting very interested in knives.

i started to shy away from my grandpas' slip joints, so i started carrying a leatherman wave. it was well received in my scout troop and i liked it.

however i figured out soon that i preferred a single bladed knife to any sak or multitool, so i bought a buck 110 and carried it for a long time.

this was about the time i started collecting boker, gerber, and buck fixed hunting knives. i loved stag handled 4 inch stainless fixed blades for a very long time.

then i had a turning point. i went to cabelas and bought a buck pro line 440c pbs folder with aluminum realtree handles, an adjustable thumbstud, takedown construction, liner lock, and dual flippers. it was lightweight, skeletenized, had great edge retention, and flawless one handed opening and closing. that was my go to knife for the longest time, and the first time i started carrying a knife in my pocket at all times.

one day i was watching a movie with denzel washington and he whipped out this sweet looking folder with a big hole in the blade. it immediately reminded me of that little hawkbill hannibal lector had in hannibal, which was one of my favorite movies at the time. so i found spyderco, the military, the caly3, and bladeforums.

then i got into neck knives for a while but i dont carry them anymore.

nowadays i really just prefer a little one handed locking pocket knife, so i carry a bm 930. i love the axis lock, blue g10, shiny gray hardware, and the blade shape...which is probably as close as ill get to getting my fix for wharncliffe blades which ive always had.

but lately ive found those clb biscuits for $25 and love them. especially because i can get my hannibal lector fix with the subclaw. finally. so now im off on the tangent of little big knives and fred perrin stuff...

who knows what the future holds
