Hunting season is rolling around soon and it has me thinking about good knives I have used. I am quite picky about how my venison is handled from the field to freezer. That usually makes me the one in camp with the sharpest knife and know how (chuckle). It is amazing the difference a good knife can make in the field.

This model from Pete Moon in ATS-34 handles like a dream. It is one of my favorites, what's yours?

I just finished putting a razor edge on my J.R. Cook forged 1084 hunter with my APEX 3 sharpener. German silver trim and desert ironwood enclosed tang on this one. Yes, I use it.

that's a great looking handle, in fact, I think I like it more than on the rest you put pictures of up.

The knives I've seen you make here on the forum, have been consistently appealing! With the right tools, I bet you could produce knives that would offset price of said tools. That's right- go for it man! I'll buy one:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

No one favorite, love them all.
I would have a hard time choosing between my Hunters and Bowies/Fighters if I had to.
You guys/gals that collect both, would it be a hard choice for you?

Great thread! Beautiful and well made knives already. Here's my favorite to date and its being used with a light patina starting. Pics are as new:

Nick Wheeler Black Ash Hunter:

Here's one I am looking forward to carrying. By David Sylvester and one of his JS test knives, a small integral. Feels really good in hand and is super light. Getting a custom sheath for this next week.

Some truly amazing knives here - very intimidating to a maker like myself, but I had to contribute to the thread anyway.
Whenever I look back through various folders of knives that I have made, I always stop and pause on this one. Many were more complex, and many were more expensive! But there's just something about this one that makes me smile:

If I got to pick one and one only it would be the Hancock wedgie.

Lorien - thanks for your kind words. Having used it a bit I re-profiled the handle slightly when I was last at Dan's. It is now feels pretty much perfect (for me). It's amazing how a little change can make a big difference.

Hans - that is an impressive trio. Nice to see some of Rik's work - wish we saw more.

Matt - so cool that you're using that Wheeler - I bet he'll really appreciate the feedback.

Karl, let's see a pic of that first JS knife - it's my favourite hunter of yours.

Awesome thread!

Roger, that user Foster is awesome...

The fisks make me drool...

Karl, your stag hunter is beautiful.

Here's 2 of my hunters by Jerry Hossom, the top one is a user:

Come on Kevin, show us your big hitters, not those b-rated users.

I've seen that lineup before, but they never fail to stagger me. Incredible all in every way.

I was unclear.
I was referring to if collectors of both hunters and bowies would have difficulty choosing one collection over the other.

Both beauties Karl.

These are some incredible knives that are being shown. I thought about the question and looked at the knives that have been posted and it is easy to see where some would have a problem picking out a favorite.

I thought about my hunters and that is what I collect mostly. Some great, some not as good, a couple I made, I like them all. The key word was "favorite" and to me that means the last one I would be willing to part with at any price. It is not because of the maker (known, but by the time I bought it more of a brand), the quality of workmanship (not really all that great), or the materials (nothing outstanding), it is because it is my first handmade knife, the 37 years spent with it and the service it has provided. I could not have asked for more out of a $30.00 knife. While this Morseth has virtually no collector value, is not even close to my best knife, or most expensive (although $30.00 was a LOT of money to me in 1971) it is my favorite.
